Being a Catholic is she obligated to follow the pope’s ideas on immigration?
Exactly
No.
Yes, Im wondering about that. A lot of Catholics who are rock-solid on other issues are weak on immigration.
No it does not.
We have too many Catholics on the court already.
“Being a Catholic is she obligated to follow the popes ideas on immigration?”
Many American Catholics are completely fed up with the phony pope and don’t look up to him.
Thomas is Catholic and he voted to uphold the travel ban. Ill bet that shes of the American Catholic persuasion and will not strictly follow the Vatican, especially this Pope.
The Catholic Church’s official position on immigration is that people have a right to seek a better life, and countries have a right to regulate their borders and expect immigrants to respect the native customs, language, laws, etc. All intelligent Catholics know that any pope’s views on immigration are largely prudential, not authoritative, and that his religious competence in this area is pretty limited. Intelligent Catholics know also that this particular pope has a bad habit of running his mouth about things that are none of his business, and discount his pronouncements accordingly.
>>Being a Catholic is she obligated to follow the popes ideas on immigration?<<
No, but she is reportedly a “fervent” Catholic, and if she believes this Pope to be the true Vicar of Christ, she may be reluctant to take a position that is contrary to his teaching. And that would be a very bad consequence of her being selected to sit on the Supreme Court. Also, her adoption of two Haitian children strikes me as virtue signaling at its most egregious, given the fact that there are thousands of orphans in need of parents right here in America.
