TSA Pistols Discovered in Carry-ons 28 May-June 3rd 2018

During the week of 28 May to June 3rd, 2018, the TSA discovered 97 pistols in carry-ons at airports where security is controlled by the TSA. The collage of pistols shown above is a sample of those found.

TSA gives a list of the pistols found. The list shows the make, model and caliber of most of the pistols. There were 93 pistols where the caliber was identified.

9 mm pistols were still the most common, with 36 represented. .380 pistols, known in Europe as 9X17, 9 mm Kurtz, or 9 mm Corto,  were the next represented, with 24 present. That is 70 pistols, or 75% of the pistols found. There were a smattering of other calibers. There were 8 .40 caliber pistols, 7 .22 LR rimfire, 6 .45 caliber, 5 .32 caliber, 4 .38 caliber, 1 .410, and 1 .22 magnum.

Most of the pistols were semi-autos, there were a few revolvers, and three derringers.

My vote for the most unusual goes to the Taurus Judge discovered at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The Judge has been a tremendous success. It shoots both .410 shotshells and .45 Colt cartridges interchangeably. With about two million people with concealed carry permits in Florida, it is not unusual that an occasion traveler makes a mistake, and walks into the security screening with a forgotten pistol.

How does this happen? It is the principle of rare occurrences. While an event may be extremely rare for each individual, if enough individuals are involved, the occurrence of rare events becomes a statistical certainty.

Do something enough times, and a mistake or error will occur. No one is perfect.

Taurus Judge is for snakes. Every try to hit a moving snake with a bullet? If you have a great success story it is probably a lie because unless you have the muzzle to the snake you are gonna miss.

The TSA never fail to trumpet their so-called successes which usually involve legal gun owners being forgetful.

The same TSA will stonewall and offer up the worst sort of unaccountable arrogance when their paymasters (ie taxpayers and travelers) demand information on egregious, repeated incidents of overzealous searches that have nothing to do with security and cross into assault.

Their PR wing is as mendacious as their operations wing.

Naw. Birdshot for snakes buckshot or slugs or .45 Colt for 2 legged vermin.

Just don’t accidentally load .454 Casull. It’ll blow up in your face.

Where I work we have to pass any carried article through an x-ray scanner.

One day my relief made the mistake of bringing a loaded magazine in to work in his bag. And had to go through the lengthy process that was initiated by that process. As a consequence I went home an hour late that day.

I attribute his mistake to his using the same bag for going to the gun range as he uses as his go to work bag.

I suspect that many of these TSA guns are attributable to that same practice; using your range bag as a carry on bag.

I was going to say that was certainly more unusual than a Judge. Especially since it seems it was loaded.

“While an event may be extremely rare for each individual, if enough individuals are involved, the occurrence of rare events becomes a statistical certainty.”

People need to understand this when ‘unusual events’ occur in this country, or many others. Example are mass shootings and kids left in hot cars (who have otherwise responsible parents, not druggies). If you have a country of 350 MILLION PEOPLE, once in a while someone will do something really bad, or just make a mistake.

It’s sad, but for people who can’t deal with it or understand what 350 MILLION PEOPLE means, it’s probably best to move to Malta or something.

QUIZ QUESTIONS:

1) You’re flying to New York City to transfer to a flight to Germany and you realize that your 9mm is in your carry-on. What do you do?

2) You’re flying to New York City to visit there (for whatever sick reason), and you realize that you have a 9mm in your checked bag (that was not declared prior). What do you do?

Clue: I know the answer to #1, but not #2, so I could use some help there.

Remarkably BAD headline.

None of the pistols mentioned were attributed to TSA personnel.

I have an old .38 special with snake shot I use when out cutting bamboo.

You can buy snake shot for all kinds of calibers, even .22.

In FL you don’t even go into the terminal carrying.

Don’t ever go to NYC for ANY REASON! If you have a sick relative there, realize that sick or not, he or she chooses to live in a $hithole and isn’t deserving of a visit from you. Three years in jail for your observance of your Second Amendment Right is too high a price to pay.

Could be an Iver Johnson looks like the one I have. They are a novelty as they require special black powder ammo. Modern Ammo will destroy them quickly.
