Democratic lawmakers and candidates are increasingly seeking the elimination of Immigration and Customs Enforcement as part of their suite of demands in D.C.'s heated border battle.
The calls reflect not only the deepening divide between the two partisan poles on immigration -- with one side seeking a border wall, and the other looking to dismantle the lead enforcement agency -- but the growing influence of the progressive wing.
More and more Democratic politicians have embraced such causes as 'Medicare for all' and a federal jobs guarantee. Now, they're getting behind the call to abolish ICE, with gusto.
Perhaps no 2018 moment better captured that growing influence than liberal primary challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's shocking victory Tuesday night over Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y., a member of party leadership.
Ocasio-Cortez ran on all three of those platforms, and even protested outside an ICE center in Texas.
Crowley had hardly used moderate language in his description of ICE, making do with calling it a “fascist” organization that needed to be put “back on its leash.”
But that stance apparently was not enough for Democratic primary voters, who overwhelmingly backed Ocasio-Cortez. In comments to CNN Wednesday morning after her primary win, she went even further and claimed ICE was running “black sites” at the border. “Its extra-judicial nature is baked into the structure of the agency and that is why they are able to get away with black sites at our border, with the separation of children,” she said.

My take: Why not just practice self-immolation? Don’t take me down with you. Oh, sure, there’ll be some cleanup duty, but that’s a lot better than an invasion which will take us all down. Nihilism shows such a lack of imagination.
Tell me, if they voted in the House and Senate tonight on abolishing ICE, how many Democrats would vote 'yes'? My guess is a very tiny number.

Half of illegal immigrants are over-stayed VISAs, so you’ll still need ICE.

What they are doing is proving to the American people that allowing so many illegals into the US who are from socialist countries is bad. It’s also telling us that allowing DACA a path to citizenship would be a disaster for this country.
This is a change in my position, before I thought a path would be acceptable but now looking at the make up of the protesters, the socialist bent of these people, I think no path to citizenship would be best. Legal residency is the most they should get, and if they are found to break any US law, especially voting, they should lose that residency and be expelled to their country of origin

When possible Dem presidential contender Kamala Harris comes out for a complete overhaul of ICE because she’s basically for open borders, it’s a strong statement for a Dem position, let’s hope she keeps beating her open borders drum.
Disagree...they will line up against ANYTHING that they think will hurt Trump! The fact that Trump’s poll numbers are ascending pretty much sums that up!

Your take highlights the real problem conservatives have with Leftists: If their actions were only to affect them and their constituency, we might well say: “Have at it.”

If Trump signs Cory Gardner's pot-decriminalization bill, he's got 40+ states in the bag for 2020, regardless of who the Dems run.
The RNC should be running ads supporting her.
