Schumer: Don't vote on new justice until next year

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promised the country Wednesday that a new justice will be confirmed to the Supreme Court this fall, setting out an ambitious goal for himself to approve a key seat with the narrowest of majorities.

Democrats were already sounding obstructionist notes, however.

Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, said the Senate should wait until after this year’s election, giving voters a chance to weigh in on some of the senators who will confirm the next pick.

Sorry Schumer, it doesn't look like you can obstruct this one.

Don’t think so Chuckie.
Grassley will promptly move the nominee thru his committee.

I see what he’s trying to do. He’s trying to say that since the GOP held up filling the last Supreme Court nomination until after the presidential election, that they should hold this one back until after these mid term elections.

I’m cynical enough, to think that if Chuck Schumer is in favor of something, odds are I should be against it.

If the Senate doesn’t vote before the election, then Chuck and the Democrats will use filling this Supreme Court vacancy as a campaign issue. He probably thinks he can get political mileage out of keeping a vote from happening before the election.

But, since the GOP is in control, Mitch McConnell and his boys can and should move ahead with the confirmation.

Schumer and his people will vote against whoever is nominated, so in that sense, it really doesn’t matter when the vote happpens.
