In the minds of left wing kooks accusing a straight person of being a homosexual is an undeserved compliment so accusing Trump and Putin of being lovers is a form of satire to them. On the other hand, to call a gay person straight would be the worst insult possible. Try imagining that you think Hillary would be a great president and it may seem less murky.
