For all their smarts, Asian Americans can be pretty dumb.
They support Democrats in droves, and Democrats support race-based affirmative action. Last week, a lawsuit revealed just how discriminatory that kind of decision-making can be. At Harvard, racial balancing — in the guise of a personality score for applicants — appears to be systematically reducing the admission of Asian American students to the university.

“What is the appeal?”
The appeal of the Democrat party to successful people is a mask of virtue and a shield against envy. Its appeal to unsuccessful people is the promise of free scraps and something other than themselves to blame for their own failure. An additional appeal common to both is the promise of power over those whom they hate.
A lot of Japanese have voted Republican over the years due to the Dims interring them during the war. It is similar to the older Jewish people who vote Dim because they think it was the Dims who finally entered the war and ended the holocaust.
The Southeast Asians in the US do not have these former experiences and many likely believe that the Dims are oh, so kind.
Asians get nothing for their support of Democrats. Having said that Republicans are pretty terrible at outreach to asians or in fact anyone come to think about it. They completely blew the chance to get the AA bloc under their tent in the 90s when it was still up for grabs.
I'm not so sure about the younger generation of Vietnamese born here. They might have drunk the Kool-Aid.
Democrats sold the Vietnamese down the river. Don’t count on them getting wise. They’re already educated. They just have little ones.
The Republicans don’t notice it at their country clubs, but the Asian population in the US has EXPLODED and is just about half of the black population.
The ONLY thing holding Asians to the Democrat Party is immigration (i.e., wanting to be able to bring over extended family from abroad). If the Republicans weren’t so STUPID as to classify Asian immigrants as no better than MS-13 immigrants, they’d be carving out rules for countries whose people don’t come here and either blow things up, or run around killing Americans (or both).
To put it another way, we’d classify countries as ‘good’ or ‘bad’, with most of East Asia, Europe, and also Canada as good, and of course the Middle East, South of the Border, and much of Africa as bad - and with that, we’d have looser, much looser, immigration restrictions on the ‘good’ countries.
If they Republicans weren’t SO STUPID, they’d realize that Asians are natural fit to the party, for many reasons (including college admissions as you mention), and if they can alleviate their concerns about immigration, THEY WOULD HAVE THEM.
...but leave it to Republicans to not even try.

That is an excellent argument. You may be onto something here.
Another theory I have is that Asian countries are far more socialist than the USA when it comes to things like healthcare and education. I think those Democrat empty promises must be appealing to Asian Americans, even though they’re smart enough to know that policies will not work in a country of this size with tax structure that we have.
Actually, it makes no sense for any group or race or religion or culture or gender, to follow the democratic party.

It stuns me too. Asians have traditional family values. They overwhelmingly value education. They have high rates of achievement.....and they vote for the party that screws them over at every turn. Be it college admissions or wanting to tax the beejezus out of anybody who achieves, the Democrats do Asian Americans utterly no favors. They, like Jews, should overwhelmingly vote Republican.
Can't Trump hire him to do something high profile? He is conservative, very smart, and comes across as a good guy when defending conservative legal positions on camera.
I’m a fan of Professor Yoo also. But if any position he gets appointed to requires a hearing of any kind, we’d get non-stop yelling about “waterboarding’ and “torture”. He’d be Borked almost immediately.
I have a female family member that was an adopted NK baby, and grew up to be completely conservative and Christian. But raised by liberal nonreligious white people in Long Island! She turned me on to kimchi. I think there is a bigger spiritual component that no one thinks about, the randomness of the Holy Spirit or something.
But it also could be mostly about where a people tend to live. In the US, Asians seem to live in urban areas, right? Urban living people tend to vote liberal. Jews and blacks, the white people that live there also trend liberal. Everyone does. The only urban living conservative group are the Orthodox/Hasidic Jews as far as I can tell. But I bet the rural ones tend to be more conservative.

well i used to wonder about that too. i can give you my two cents (yes full disclosure, i’m a half-breed, too). the so called racism and dem support for immigration arguments are overblown imo (e.g., my mom was a legal immigrant as are most asian immigrants):
0. asians are good at small details, but don’t spend time learning about the big picture. they also seem drawn (in my family at least) to rich-man conspiracy theories like bees to honey. reps are perceived at least by many asians are rich guys out to get them.
1. in asian culture you generally either conform to the norm or you’re basically dead to the family and culture. asians agree that the group is far more important than the individual.
2. asians as recent migrants tend to be urban, not rural. cities have become overwhelmingly controlled by dems. republicans have tended to rise to power in rural America (ranchers and farmers as the power base).
3. asian business culture and advancement often works by favor trading and small time graft. dem city politicians respond to that. gop types tend to run from that. asians are used to that in their socialized home countries (Japan, China, etc.)
4. in my experience with the traditional faction of the elephant, you are either recruited because of some perception in the party that they can use you, you inherit your way in through old money family/parents, you buy your way in, or you jam your way in (ala Trump). not much chance there for poor asians who are tied to their family and culture via indoctrination.
5. women rule the roost in many asian familes. women are more attracted as a group to the dem faction.
6. asians are family owned, small business oriented, city dems feed on that. gope is more big-business, big corp, chamber of commerce oriented.
7. asians perceive that the donkey gives you a way to real power as a poor nobody through conformity, and thus loyalty (ideological purity), work ethic, good at parroting the teacher, etc. you advance in the donkey by proving yourself on the activist front by being a good unquestioning solder of the party. you never get out of step with the party. again tailor-maid for the majority of us asians. we asians are better at conformity and loyalty. the result is that you see many asians achieve in power in the dem faction, not so much in the gope.
