I can see a scenario where Trump is impeached on phony evidence and convicted and removed from office. I can see about 30 states passing ordinances not recognizing the outcome of said impeachment and recognizing Trump as President. I can see Trump flying to one of those states and setting up a a new federal govt there. I can see those states then seceding. Yes I can see that happening.
Your scenario the states just melt away like they don't exist.

A civil war today would not have the convenience of starkly defined borders that contain united hegemonic populations.In most cases. However we are fortunate enough to live on a peninsula, the base of which contains all the liberals and the entry to the rest of the country.
Additionally we reside among a huge hunting and boating population. So all we worry about is staying overstocked. And we did a lot of canning last year.
On our road we utilize our neighbor's shooting range for practise and btw, he has access to most local officials and news...if they come from his direction he will take them out before they get to us. And our place is not so easy to get to and forget it if you have one of those cute little cars. Especially in the winter.
There is a national guard - a huge one - training camp nearby and we are not sure what that will mean.
In the meantime people in cities should have getaway plans and all Michiganders are welcome to camp on our land.
