Climate Change Sparked the Border Migration Crisis
The Daily Beast ^ | June 21, 2018 | by TANYA BASU

One factor causing migrants to risk everything - even potentially losing their children - to travel through the heat of summer in the dangerous desert and towards the barbed wire fences and tent cities springing up just south of the United States border: climate change.

Many of the migrants being detained here now hail from what's referred variously as the Dry Corridor or the Northern Triangle, which consists of the three countries immediately south of Mexico: Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.

The United Nations published a report in June 2016 that described the depth of the food insecurity crisis in the region, leaving 3.5 million people, or nearly 30 percent of the population, food insecure from crop losses estimated to be as high as 90 percent.

Why the high crop losses? It’s due to a cycle of severe drought followed by tumultuous rainfall in the region, a pair of extreme weather patterns attributed to El Nino and La Nina.

"What we're talking about here are changing precipitation patterns," Robert Albro, a research associate professor in Latino Studies at American University, said. "Climate scientists have observed that climate change is exacerbating El Nino and La Nina, so we see radically changing seasonal patterns."

The climate change narrative dispels the popular notion that many migrants from the Northern Triangle are escaping gang violence and rampant drug wars. "The dominant discourse about unaccompanied minor migration has almost entirely been attributed to violence in the region," Carrie Seay-Fleming, a graduate student in the department of sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder, said. "But there isn't a whole lot of evidence that violence is [driving migration]."

Oh, so they’re not fleeing oppression. Then they aren’t really refugees. In that case we can go ahead and deny them entry and send them all back. Thanks Daily Beast, that’s great news!

You are supposed to include “satire” in the title if it’s satire.

Yeah the .2 to 1.2 degree rise in world temperatures over the last 120 years has been brutal.

Being paid 10 times the average African / ME wage in benefits, with no strings attached, has nothing to do with it.

Being on jihad has nothing to do with it.

Having an abundant supply of soft, European, stupid ***** available for the raping has nothing to do with it.

Climate change affects everything and everyone. It melts the ice caps, causes the seas to rise, causes birds, animals, people and disease to migrate north. It also causes warts, pimples and hair to grow on the palms of the basement dwellers pushing all this propaganda.

The other day, I had to turn on my air conditioner. It was so humid and warm that I was uncomfortable in my house.

Thanks to articles like this one, I now know that the weather I am having (for one day) is caused by man made climate change. /s

What a load of crap. People who pretend to know what the rain pattern would have been like while they have done worse than a magic eight ball would have done in their future projections of average temperature...at least the eight ball would have gotten about half the guesses above and below actual. I say fire them and hire pyschics...or better yet just get rid of the phonies and let the few real climate scientists continie their work without the political hype.

Its also causing mathematical constants like the value if pi to deform. It used to be exaclty 3 before big oil came along.

Rain patterns were constant and unchanging for 3.8 billion years ...
until the mid-20th century and the appearance of man-made CO2 ...
which was diabolically designed to be different than natural CO2.

It is not climate change or droughts attributable thereto. It is poor agriculture managment practices, and poorly supplied infrastructure to make some of the better practices easier to achieve. Drought does not mean there is no water. It means you cannot depend on rain and have to have and use other means to get water on the crops. Many nations deal with drought and do not have their national agriculture dead from it. The central Americabs kicked the Spanish out how many years ago, a couple hundred? And still it is someone else’s fault? Look at tiny Singapore, or South Korea will next to zero natural resources of its own for industry. Wake up Central America. You got problems? Learn to deal with them
