Meeting on Alamo plan turns heated

Nearly 100 people turned up to discuss a proposed Alamo plan at a public meeting that became heated Monday night... "We’re already in the first minute on our conversation, and I’m already hearing booing. It can’t happen that way,” Brockhouse said. Members of the design team addressed the group, which sometimes jeered as the consultants acknowledged being from outside of Texas... Earlier in the day, singer Phil Collins, who has donated his collection of artifacts to the Alamo, was in San Antonio for unveiling of bronze models depicting the evolution of the mission and military fortress over more than a century. The bronzes, on display in Alamo Plaza, were created by historian and artist George Nelson. McDonald told people at the meeting that Collins did not object to any specific parts of the plan when briefed on it Monday.“He believes the site ought to be reverent,” McDonald said.

The article barely mentioned the Texas Land Commission Office and no where was George P. Bush (Land Commissioner) named. He's the one wanting to redo the Alamo to pay tribute to his beloved Mexico or some such hooey. I'm against anything being done to it, especially by a Bushey.

What the heck does Englishman Phil Collins have to do with Alamo?

I could be wrong, but I believe Collins has one of the largest private collections of Alamo artifiacts in the world.

Everyone’s gotta have a hobby...

Phil Collins has the biggest collection of Battle of the Alamo artifacts and memorabilia. I believe he heavily contributes to the Alamo Society or whatever they call it!

Phil Collins is one of the good guys. He spent many hundred of thousands of dollars of Alamo related items and is donating his collection back to the people of Texas.

Trick question: Does Collins collection include a replica of the flag that flew over the Alamo when it fell?

No. No one knows what flag flew over the Alamo. Travis put in a request for reimbursement but no one remembers seeing it fly over the Alamo before the attack.

I just went to the Alamo this past summer... who says they don’t understand the story???? They need more space to tell it??

WTF???

Its not that complicated of a story, if it was, no one would be remembering the Alamo at all.

Yes yes, I know but my Texan born and bred cat should have more say than a Brit does. I don’t give a flying fig what he has to say.

George P. Bush is responsible for this.
He wants to turn the Alamo into A Mexican victory monument.
He was born a Mexican citizen because his mother was still a Mexican citizen when he was born.

And he donated it to the Alamo. The artifacts were whispering in Phil’s ear...”Take Me Home”.

Well done, Phil.

While in basic training (USAF) at Lackland AFB, in 1964, I visited the Alamo...frankly, it was quite a let down.

I thought it was so tiny. Nothing like it looked in the Davy Crockett (Disney Fess Parker) films.

I understand that what it left is just a small portion of the whole fort/mission.

I guess I just had it built up in my teenage mind to be bigger than it actually is.

Same type thing when I was later shipped to Germany. I had visions of getting the plane and seeing bombed-out buildings on a blackened battlefield, with waifs of smoke drifting through the air. But, It (Frankfurt) was a major, sprawling, metropolis, with cars, and lights, and everything.

I needed to stop watching movies, which I did, eventually.

He appreciates this part of Texas history and has made a very positive contribution to Texas history. If you can’t recognize that, too bad.

The people who died in the Alamo were mostly Mexicans, not Texans.
