A while back, some academics had analyzed various genocides throughout history and came up with the “8 stages of genocide”.
I believe we are at about stage 2 or 3 right now, where the perpetrators destroy symbols/culture of the targeted group and begin to dehumanize them.

The problem is both the left and the right can claim that't what the other side is doing.
I also find the solution to step 2 troubling:
"To combat symbolization, hate symbols can be legally forbidden as can hate speech".
Who decides? Who gets to enforce?
