“The pahoehoe flows have smooth undulating surfaces and can be traversed on foot for short distances. The rough ‘a’a, however, are jagged, slag-like piles of impassable material.”

Someone forgot to tell the USMC that when we were there. They just told us we would all get a new set of utilities and *shockingly* for the USMC, a new pair of boots after it was over. The USMC giving you boots when they don’t have to...
At the end of the exercise, uniforms were ripped, and the boots were chewed up and looked like suede. And there were more than a few twisted ankles. Garand clips were everywhere out there. And the place has duds all over.

You are in Hawaii, but you couldn’t tell it from Socorro New Mexico.

Good evening, DesertRhino...thank you for the 1st hand experience.

Does NOT sound like fun trying to not break something or cut yourselves to pieces.
