Coral Ridge Ministries also sued for similar reasons—labeling them a “hate group”, trafficking in false information, damaging their ability to raise donations... but haven’t noticed any multi-million-dollar “settlement”.

They are saying, we decided to “settle” because we discovered we actually agree with them, not because of the legal merit.
And guess where the money for the “settlement” came from? Insurance. Yeah. It does not affect their bottom line. At least not directly. Now they can fight the Christians and conservatives, with their deny, delay, and defend tactics, hoping to run out the clock and make litigation too costly for these other groups.
Do you know how hard it is to win a case like this in court, especially against an entity with nearly unlimited resources?
There is a fine line between free speech and the libel and slander that SPLC specializes in. With this “settlement” they can claim the moral high ground that when they make an error of judgment they make it right. But the reality is they have not made anything right. They accidentally attacked an entity that shares mostly similar views to them.
They were happy to “settle” because the settlement is not much different than a donation to a group with a similar ideology. No loss.
To me there is nothing to celebrate here. It is nothing more than PR for both groups.
SPLC still has FRC on it’s hate list along with KKK and real white supremacist groups. Why? Because of their traditional Christian views on homosexuality. SPLC is part of the gaystoppo.

And SPLC is right in the heart of it.
