N.Korea Offers to Remove Long-Range Artillery from Frontline
The Chosun Ilbo ^ | June 18, 2018 | Lee Yong-soo

North Korean delegates at cross-border military talks in the truce village of Panmunjom last Thursday offered to move their long-range artillery pieces from the military demarcation line to rear areas, a source said Sunday.

The Defense Ministry denied it, but the source said, "The North Korean delegates brought it up first as a matter of principle." This would go a long way toward reducing military tensions. It is not known why the North made the offer or what it expects in return.

The North has deployed about 1,000 artillery guns near the MDL. Some 330 are trained on the Seoul region, including six battalions of 170-mm self-propelled artillery guns with a range of 54 km and some 10 battalions of 240-mm multiple rocket launchers with a range of 60 km.

The launchers are hidden in tunnels in ordinary times but can be moved out quickly to fire shells. A diplomatic source said, "This may be an attempt to maintain the momentum of the U.S.-North Korea summit."

But the North is unlikely to have attached no conditions. It probably demanded that South Korea and the U.S. also move their frontline artillery guns to rear areas....

You just don’t know how right you are, I was arguing online with a liberal dem just two days ago, who said that Trump put sanctions on Russia because Putin told him to...How the hell can you reason with people like that?....

Before North Korea’s nuclear capability, that artillery was always the nightmare scenario for Seoul. If North Korea is moving it way, that is a huge step.

I’ve wondered if using tactical nukes would have been necessary to prevent the destruction of Seoul if North Korea ever decided to let loose with that artillery. This is huge. I hope naysayers choke on it.

For the time being China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, and USA’s interests are aligned in terms of denuclearization...

The long term is a different story. Post de-nuclearization, what then? A unified Korea would have complex ramifications. For Americans: the attention will be focused on U.S. troops presence on the DMZ. Somehow we need to make sure that Korea is no longer a costly burden, yet does not become a new threat closely allied with our other adversaries.

And in Asia, while a nuclear North Korea is a threat, a “united” and prosperous single Korea may not be a welcome new reality by its neighbors either...

Yes, that will be a definite positive move to improve relations on their part. And as you said, the MSM/left will either try to explain it away and/or not even realize the importance of the move. Yes, the pieces could be moved back into place, but that would be detectable.

Their interests are aligned in terms of exploitation of NK.
As is Kim’s.

Much much more than usual. But as usual, they are dealing with it through denial, misdirection, and all the tricks that we are already on to, which when they realize we are on to them, may cause a chain reaction that will lead to critical mass and fission in their desperation to stop Donald Trump from winning. So if you see mushroom clouds, remember the duck n cover drills from school.

Actually the beginnings of this come first from the South Korean delegation making the request to North Korea to mover their artillery back. It did not begin with North Korea, unprompted, simply offering to make the move.

And anyway, it is verification, not promises that matter.

“Children in cages”

Maybe if they put Stormy in a cage with Putin holding the key, that would do the trick.

I grew up in DFW, Texas, which was like #3 on their target list.

after the first mirv, it was simply a matter of how far the debris flew.

I always understood that too.
