Unfortunately, he has no choice. NJ is populated with tons of horrible leftists and plenty of illegal immigrants who have no problem illegally voting.

If Hugin does well in Somerset, Middlesex, and Union counties, then Hugin could win.

Hugin, if elected Senator in 2018, will probably be a one-term senator with few accomplishments.

NJ Democrats have a huge bench post-Menendez and Hugin would vote like Susan Collins, and Jeff Flake than Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton and John Boozman.

Ran away from both Trump and the Republican Party in his TV ad before the primary - just the sort of stand up guy so typical of Republicans today......

>> In the state’s jungle primary this month, a pro-Trump conservative Republican placed second. And he wants Trump to campaign for him in a Deep Blue State. He might not win but Cox unlike Hugin <<

Ummm, Cox was a NeverTrumper, not a "pro-Trump" candidate, actually.

He may want Trump to campaign for him NOW, but he sure as hell didn't want to campaign for Trump or get Trump elected in the first place.

They (conservatives and RINOs both) tend to lose because there are too many democrats in the state.

Scott Garrett managed to “lose” even as Trump edged Shillery in his district.

Anyway, Hugin, (dumb name) is clearly too liberal for my taste, this editorializing article aside.

Abortion and fags yeah whatever I expected that but his mentioning of the wage gap myth is a particularly unfortunate sign. His running this far to the left is poor strategy, though is not being favor of the cap on deductions of local taxes is a duh move for any poo state Republican.

For NJ this year I would have advised a statewide candidate to be as vague as possible on how he feels about things like Trump and dreamers and just spout platitudes and attack Melendez.

Of course I still support his candidacy over the democrat. At least he’s making them spend money on the race. Impy’s race rating is likely rat.

I could agree its politically damaging to run as a Trump supporter in a state like NJ, but there's zero evidence whatsoever that running as a defacto RAT on public policy makes candidates more "electable" in RAT infested states. Between the unofficial D and the official D, Dem voters will select the official D every time.

I think the most recent example of this is that Neel Kashkari ran as such an ultra-RINO in California that he made Ahnuldddddd look like Jesse Helms in comparison, but Kashkari still lost by a huge margin in November.

Like Hugin, Kashkari marketed himself as "a different kind of Republican", which apparently is RINO speak for "I agree with 95% of the RAT party platform but I'm putting R next to my name on the ballot"

This guy Hugin and Rauner in IL will be the latest examples that doing the Dems bidding in RAT states doesn't convince any of them to vote for you.

I might hold my nose for RINO scum only if there's a likelihood they could defeat an evil worst marxist RAT in November, like when I had to hold my nose and endorse the otherwise worthless Tom Kean Jr. (Menendez's margin of victory over Kean was the narrowest victory for an incumbent Democrat in the United States) But if the RAT is running 20 points ahead of the worthless RINO, then screw them and the donkey they rode in on.

Ah, New Jersey. The only state where partaking of underaged prostitutes in foreign countries is considered a positive qualification for US Senate.
