Rudy Giuliani says Mueller probe 'might get cleaned up' with 'presidential pardons' (trunc)
New York Daily News ^ | June 15th, 2018 | By Chris Sommerfeldt

In one of his most forceful attacks on the special counsel yet, Rudy Giuliani on Friday claimed the Russia investigation could get “cleaned up” with pardons from President Trump in light Paul Manafort being sent to jail.

“When the whole thing is over, things might get cleaned up with some presidential pardons,” the former New York mayor told the Daily News.

Giuliani’s stunning remark came hours after a Washington, D.C., judge revoked Manafort’s bail and ordered him to remain behind bars while awaiting his September trial on charges relating to his shady pro-Russian business dealings in Ukraine. The ruling came after Robert Mueller’s investigators alleged Manafort had attempted to tamper with witnesses in the Russia investigation.

Giuliani, who worked as a federal prosecutor for nearly a decade, claimed he had seen no evidence to warrant Manafort being sent to jail.

“I don’t understand the justification for putting him in jail,” Giuliani, 74, said. “You put a guy in jail if he’s trying to kill witnesses, not just talking to witnesses.”

Trump needs to backchannel to both Manafort and Cohen that no matter the outcome, they will not serve time.

I believe that's exactly what Rudy just did.

“Wait for it.....Obstruction!”

Let them make that case in the House and Senate.

Trump is no more impeachable than Obama was.

Must wait until formally convicted before a pardon can be granted.

Nope. You can pardon in advance.

Normally, this is true. But the poor bastid IS IN JAIL RIGHT NOW.

Was he “formally convicted”? Hell, he didn’t even get a freaking trial.

The Politburo has spoken. Let it be so.

“Rudy needs to shut up.”

I thought it a brilliant political move.

“I believe the legal term for that is “obstruction of justice”.”

I agree, but Rudy’s signal should give these abused men the notion that the President has their backs. I get really angry when I realize that ALL of this is due to Sessions recusal, coupled with Rosenschmeckel’s treasonous acts.

Ford pardoned Nixon for any crimes he might have committed while President.

If the President if innocent of any wrong doing then why the need to have their back? If these men are being charged for their own illegal actions then where is a pardon justified?

Rudy is always tipping Trump’s hand.

Mueller is deputizing state court prosecutors as assistant attorneys general so they may indict in state or federal court.

Trump cannot pardon state crimes

Rudy is an embarrassment. Very indiscreet

The Muller probe has been proven to be a fake news Witch Hunt, on par with the Catline Consipracy in the hall of democratic outrages .

Trump, would be perfectly within his rights and justified to order the immediate arrest and detention of Mueller and his lackeys and s blanket pardon to all those troubled by his satanic spree

Kind of specious of Mueller. Once deputized by the feds they can only act in federal cases. The states attorneys can do their own thing in their own state.

Oh come on DD, they are where they are today because Mueller is trying to use indictments for prior acts “as a criminal inducement” to have them turn on the President. Neither you nor I have any idea just what either of these men might “offer” in exchange for Mueller’s “dropping of all charges” against them! People faced with long prison sentences will lie like rugs to keep themselves free from incarceration. What would you do to keep from going to jail for the rest of your life?

“Must wait until formally convicted before a pardon can be granted. None of the bigwigs in campaign have been convicted yet. All charges have nothing to do with Trump campaign.”

Where the hell were you when Ford pardoned Nixon?

It may yet be; I suppose we will see. :)

He has a pattern lately of shooting his mouth off. Maybe I just have an antipathy to him because of he is an authoritarian statist.

Because they are being persecuted because of their relationship with Trump.

Something never-Trumpers don’t understand.

“Trump cannot pardon state crimes”

Sure he can.

Murders and petty drug crimes are pardoned all the time.

Kardashian’s special project was a state-only offender and Trump just pardoned her.

President Trump has said time and again that he did nothing wrong. I don't have any reason not to believe him, so there is nothing Cohen and Manafort can do to implicate him. Any criminal charges they get hit with are due to their own malfeasance, and the trouble they are in are their own fault. The President owes them nothing in that regard.
