LGBT rights vs. religious freedom: top court ruling on Trinity Western case today (Canada)

The Supreme Court of Canada will deliver a landmark ruling Friday in a closely-watched case that weighs religious freedom against LGBT rights.

The judgment effectively could determine whether Trinity Western University (TWU) — a private, evangelical Christian post-secondary institution — can operate a law school at its Langley, B.C. campus.

Law societies in B.C., Nova Scotia and Ontario have refused to accredit Trinity's program, arguing that the school's "community covenant" — which requires students to abstain from sex outside heterosexual marriage — discriminates against LGBT people.

In B.C. and Nova Scotia, the courts have sided with TWU, ruling the university has the right to act on its beliefs as long as there is no evidence of harm.

Ontario's court of appeal ruled against TWU, calling the covenant "deeply discriminatory to the LGBT community."

My money's on a victory for the Gaystopo. Sadly, real Christians aren't welcome in Canada anymore, unless they are "inclusive".

No brainer. The sexual deviants win hands down. Fag love is the new “next big thing” for the millennials.

Romans 1:18-32 seems pretty clear that people who’ve been turned over to depraved minds weren’t turned over because they either were homosexuals or advocates of homosexuals in society but because they first turned their backs on the Lord.

By the time that advocacy of homosexuals seems reasonable a whole lotta proverbial horses have bolted from the coral first.

Our response should be the opposite, to hold fast to the Lord and refuse to compromise with world. Compromise — how could anyone claim surprise? — can be an on ramp to the road that leads to destruction. Even if it doesn’t go that far for some at a minimum it damages our testimony.

Since Canada is hating on the USA they will probably go gay just for spite.

Law societies in B.C., Nova Scotia and Ontario have refused to accredit Trinity's program, arguing that the school's "community covenant" — which requires students to abstain from sex outside heterosexual marriage — discriminates against LGBT people.

These controversies and the courts willingness to hear these cases astounds me.

These are voluntary institutions. No one is forced to attend this school. There are ample other choices for law schools.

Why should there not be choices for people that want to attend a school with a traditional religious moral code? Why should the amoral people care that such schools exist?

Why do the people bringing this suit have standing? How can they claim injury?

I agree. Especially since Canada is lacking protection for religious expression as we understand it.
