Pompeo insists North Korea agreement 'encompasses' verifiable, irreversible denuclearization

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is defending the agreement signed by President Trump and Kim Jong Un at the Singapore summit, insisting it “encompasses” ‘verifiable’ and ‘irreversible’ denuclearization, even though the document does not explicitly use those terms.

The document calls only for “complete denuclearization,” sparking criticism the agreement was not specific enough to allow oversight of the denuclearization process.

“Let me assure you that ‘complete’ encompasses ‘verifiable’ in the minds of everyone concerned,” Pompeo told reporters in Seoul Wednesday. “One can’t completely denuclearize without validating, authenticating – you pick the word. The President is committed to that.”

When a reporter asked why the terms were not included in the statement, Pompeo replied “It’s in the statement. You’re just wrong about that.”

“I suppose you could argue semantics, but let me assure you that it’s in the document,” Pompeo continued....

They'd have taken the word of Mr. Obama's secretaries of state on it.

Surely everyone realizes there’s some I’s to be dotted and T’s to be crossed.

There is work to do to spell out the necessary details, and this is not a done deal yet.

Secretary Pompeo is not getting anywhere near the credit he deserves for all of the work he did on this most spectacular victory for America.

The agreement is quite well written, very clear language. Not the kind of rambling crap we would expect from ObamaKerry.

We still don’t know the details of Obma’s Iranian deal!

“Secretary Pompeo is not getting anywhere near the credit he deserves for all of the work he did on this most spectacular victory for America.”

indeed. but we’re seeing only the very surface of a LOT of deep diplomatic work that has been going on for months by lots of folks from both sides. this work started months ago and lots of things that seemed puzzling at the time can now clearly be seen as early signs of thawing resulting from this work, e.g., Kim Jong Un’s sister at the Olympics sitting next to Pence, Korean teams under a single flag, and the cessation of Nork nuke and missile testing ...

the fake stream media likes to pretend that the surface is all that there is because that’s all the lazy bastards know how to report on, but anyone with a lick of sense who’s paying attention can fit a lot of the puzzle pieces together to show a bigger, deeper, and more interesting picture ...

even better, this bigger, deeper, and more interesting picture totally puts the lie to the leftist fake stream media’s meme that Donald Trump is an ignorant boob who’s gonna thrash around like a crazed bull in a china shop and start numerous nuclear wars ... in point of fact, Trump’s personal approach to negotiation after months of careful preparation cuts through all of the “professional” bullshit of legions of timid, do-nothing State Department “experts” ...

another important thing to keep in mind about Trump’s approach is that such an approach is extremely high-risk in terms of personal reputation should it fail, since he’s laying everything on the line, which is probably one of the main reasons that our previous gaggle of scaredy-cat Presidents would never take the risks ... In other words, Trump is a fearless and powerful leader the likes of which we’ve never seen in our lifetime, even including the awesome Ronald Reagan ...

Following the semantic maneuvers of the past 8 years, is there any question as to why the Left must parse every single word of Pompeo and/or Trump.

An old adage cautioned, "Say what you mean and mean what you say," if you are to be a credible individual.

Since Clinton, that adage seems outdated and unbelievable. Semantics has come to be the crutch for liars, dissemblers, and Progressive politicians: else how could they win an election among ordinary honest individuals?

Don't hold your breath waiting for Trump to get credit or stop being called a crazy nut who will usher in armageddon. I remember Reagan (yeah, I'm old) and his summits with Gorbachev and they said Gorbachev was a statesman that made huge strides forward in spite of crazy cowboy Reagan when in truth it was Reagan who was pushing for sweeping bilateral arms reductions and Gorbachev who was the roadblock for much of it.

“I suppose you could argue semantics..."

I assure you the North Koreans will. If it isn't in writing, explicit, signed in blood by both sides, they aren't going to say it's there. And sometimes even when it is. North Korea has shown on every occasion in the past that they will lie, cheat, fudge, obfuscate, deny, and pervert any agreement they have been a party to. There is no reason to believe that this time is different.

“Don’t hold your breath waiting for Trump to get credit or stop being called a crazy nut who will usher in armageddon.”

agree 100%.

but the cognitive dissonance of the leftist fake stream media becomes more and more evident to more and more people on a daily basis as they see the obvious dichotomy between what’s actually happening in the real world vs. what the leftist fake stream media pretends is happening in the real world ... and the bigger this dichotomy the better, because it makes easier to see for many people ...

and at the rate they’re going, I expect the leftist fake stream media to become nearly irrelevant by the end of Trump’s eight years ... which essentially means the Dem Party itself will be nearly irrelevant since for all practical purposes, the leftist fake stream media IS the Dem Party right now, given the currently nearly moribund state of the Dem Party ...

We have so many more and more powerful weapons that it’s like Andre the Giant fighting a crippled, sickly and stunted four-year-old. There’s an old saying about being as confident as a king with an army at his back. That’s exactly what Trump is.

Again, remembering Reagan, when he went to Moscow and got out of his limo to mingle with a crowd of excited Russians on the street (including, apparently, undercover KGB agent Vladimir Putin wearing a camera around his neck like a tourist) the news media had a very hard time coming up with a way to make the optics of that bad. Editors everywhere were thinking "Crazy cowboy who hates Russia ... hanging out with Russians ... in Moscow ... who seem to love him ... Oh nuts." And most real world Americans who were leftist apparatchiks like most newspaper editors are loved Reagan. Trump may never get that much affection but if he keeps racking up victories and things keep getting better and better, he'll get respect from the regular folk.

The various Kim's have strung the world along for decades. There is no reason to believe that they're going to stop now.

Back then Mr. Trump was a developer and television personality. That’s no longer the case.

The Kims were dealing with party apparatchiks like the Bushes, Clintons and Kerry. That is no longer the case.

LOL! You think that matters? North Korea is already spinning it. Their media is talking about how Trump promised to end military exercised, or "war games" and Kim and the President now call them, and end sanctions. China is already parroting how U.N. sanctions should now be lifted. Even easing the sanctions will give Kim what he wants - power, a country to rule, and all without giving up a single nuke.

The Korean peninsula is a long, long, long way from being denuclearized.

I assume our current technology has advanced so far that we know exactly where every nuke and missile is located and its condition.

The left HATES Trump due to BRILLIANCE and SALESMANSHIP like this. I actually got a small lump in my throat as I watched this trailer. I can’t wait for the film to come out.
As I’ve said before, Trump is playing CHESS with a gaggle of stuck in the 19th-century leftists who are still trying to figure out how to play marbles (probably because they’ve LOST most of theirs)!
Reporters were shown a video ahead of Donald Trump’s press conference in Singapore, which the US president said he had played it to Kim Jong-un and his aides toward the end of their talks. It was made by Destiny Productions and was presented in Korean and English in the style of an action movie trailer
