The G-7 has a long history. The group originally had Russia as part of it and was called the G-8.
No. The history was not that long, conceived during Nixon (informally the group of FIVE [No Italy, No Canada]), the Group of SIX met under Ford (No Canada). The USSR was certainly not going to be part of this group.
Even when Russia was invited, it was called the G7+1. Why? Because Russia was, and is still a second rate (at best) economy). The facts in the second paragraph were obtained from Wikipedia, which the authoress did not bother to check (or any other source). I remember when Russia was originally invited, though, which caused me to look it up and correct the lousy authoress.
