The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia isn’t exactly the kind of place where you’d expect to find a lot of drama brewing. After all, the popular Fairmount Park museum is geared toward kids aged six months through 7 years and features things like a kid-sized grocery store, a century-old carousel, and a room where kids can build and launch their own rocket ships. Controversial it is not.
But then the Please Touch Museum invited the drag queens.
In honor of Pride Month, the Please Touch Museum is hosting a Pride Family Festival this Saturday, and the main event is Drag Queen Storytime, which is pretty much what it sounds like.

. Prior to 2000 or so, the image gays presented in public to normal people was of leather clad mustachiod men in @$$-less chaps and flamboyant drag queens in feather boas. Somewhere around the turn of the millenium they made a concerted PR push to put all that stuff back in the closet and present themselves via concerted and coordinated media push as regular joes just trying to live quiet, normal lives with someone they love. Awwww, suburban white women ate that up. And Gay rights advanced 100 years.
But now out come the feather and evening gowns again. This time with bad attitude ... "What are you going to say about it, homophobic swine? I'll have the hate crime police on you if you so much as give me a sideways glance!"
And by overreaching, especially at the sake of the suburban white women's kids, is stupid and will turn some minds against their bull. Like muscular trannies breaking all the records in women's sports, at some point even the most insecure women in need of affirmation that she's a wonderful soul full of virtue will begin to think "okay, enough is enough."
