It was widely reported that the NYPD was going to reveal what was on Weenie's laptop if the FBI did not investigate it, they were dragging their feet and NYPD was concerned. That is what caused Comey to make the announcement that the email investigation was re-opening. He needed to shut the NYPD down. Then they simply white washed it all.
