Senate Judiciary panel advances 9th Circuit judge nominee despite Democratic home-state opposition

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved the nomination of Ryan Bounds to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, likely setting up the confirmation of the first federal judge to ascend to the bench over the objections of both home-state senators in over a century.

The famously liberal 9th Circuit covers nine Western states from Hawaii to Arizona and is based in California. Bounds, now an assistant U.S. attorney in Oregon, was nominated for the seat that has traditionally gone to an Oregonian. While he was born in and spent much of his career in the state, he failed to secure the support of either Oregon senator — both of whom are Democrats.

...they believe it will set a precedent that lawmakers are powerless to influence the selection of federal judges in areas they represent...

An anachronism. As President Zer0 said, elections have consequences. I’m not tired of winning.

Kind of reminds me of when CA passed a proposition three separate times opposing sodomite mirage, so the sodomites and their leftist supporters went to the courts to override the will of the people-as expressed three different times-in order to ignore the the citizens’ will. The left seems to believe that that tactic is reserved for their own especial use.

Then of course once they’ve gotten their way, by hook or crook, “the issue is settled”.

Or the way they heartily endorse the electoral college until it doesn’t work for them.

They don’t mind one bit being seen for the hypocrites they are either, all that matters is pushing their agenda.

Like when they’re feminists until Ted Swimmer Kennedy murders a woman, in the most callous and inhuman way possible-he just didn’t give a damn, it would have been so simple to call for help for that poor woman. He just cold-bloodedly didn’t give a damn.

It would take years to list all their hypocrisies, but it still wouldn’t matter, because neither the leftist politicians nor their voters give a damn, not even to the point of murder or at least manslaughter.

Robert Byrd, former KKK Grand Wizard, the left’s “conscience of the Senate” (while crucifying George Allen for “macaca”). Bill Clinton, the “first black president”, allowing as how Obama would have, in the not-too-recent past (perhaps even just a year or so ago), being fot only to carry Clinton’s luggage.

So many instances, but it just doesn’t matter, because neither the left’s politicians nor their voters give a good damn, as long as the free sh*t keeps rolling in (including quotas, AA, etc).

Shades of Eva Peron, “And The Money Kept Rolling In”.

Good... the blue chip process was what “gifted” us with the current make up of the 9th Circuit Appeals Court.

Merkley and Wyden. Two useless Democrats few hear about.

An anachronism

It might have made sense back before the 17th amendment when state legislatures selected their Senators, but the blue slip is an anachronism when the parties select the Senators.

I do not recall reading about this blue slip protocol in the Constitution. This is a quaint practice that was offered as a courtesy to home Senators so that they could pretend that they real had a real role in selecting Federal Judges. The power resides in the President with the consent of the Senate. The last time I checked, the Senate is comprised of 100 members and each of them have a vote in the confirmation process. Time to do away with these silly anti constitutional practices that are being abused by the Democrat Party at the expense of the American people.

Wyden is New York’s third Senator. He spends most of his time with his girlfriend/wife when not in D.C.

“Blue slip” does not appear once in the Constitution.

If God forbid another vicious liberal becomes president one day, conservative senators won’t be able to use the blue slip, either.

I am sure they’d have been overridden anyway so might as well fill the vacancies.

Just need to be aware if this if we get someone horrible as President again.
