Only on the left would we see the presidential pardon of a non-violent drug offender, a cause that up until now has been a Sorosian shibboleth, greeted with grumbles.
Why? Because President Trump took the initiative to get it done, hearing of the 63 year-old grandmother's plight from big-name celebrity Kim Kardashian. The left loathes Trump more than they value that woman and the cause she represents, so a good deed suddenly becomes a bad deed.
Here's how the left and its media minions took it, starting with the Guardian:
On Wednesday, Trump commuted the sentence of Alice Johnson, a 63-year-old great-grandmother who has spent over 20 years in prison for non-violent drug crimes. It’s the sort of pardon decision previous presidents might well have made, but his likely reason for doing so was uniquely Trumpian. He was lobbied last week by the reality star Kim Kardashian to release Johnson.
Trump has pardoned slightly fewer people than most recent presidents at this stage of presidency, but there is a theme to those he has deemed worthy of clemency. Most were considered by Trump as being unfairly persecuted by the “deep state”. They have been found, by FBI and DoJ investigations, to have obstructed justice, given false statements to investigators, or broken campaign finance.
Many have suggested that Trump is using his pardons as a tool in the Mueller investigation.
Ah, so it’s not about mercy to correct an injustice, it's just all about the Russia Russia Russia thang.
Oh, and tilt your head for this one, the Guardian helpfully adds:
Many in the White House are reportedly dismayed that a pardon was made in this manner, particularly one that flies in the face of the general government policy on drug

Is she black? And was in prison for a non-violent drug crime? This is the sort of sentence that the liberals complain about all the time.
I’m not up on all the nuances of sentencing for drug crime. But sounds like the liberals should be happy that he took such an action in her case.
What did she do to warrant a life sentence? I can only find “a non-violent drug offense”.
This is the damage of the special counsel investigation. It allows the leftist media to spin everything and anything under the fraudulent cloud of “the Russians did it.”
This and “Trump is boorish” is all they have. No ideas of their own.... just “Russia, Russia, Russia, we’ll raise your taxes, cops are bad, MS-13 are people too, and Russia stole the election because you were too stupid.

She deserved a pardon. Trump stepped up and gave it.

Sounds like enough punishment to me.
But Clinton pardoning terrorists who actually murdered people is fine and dandy.................

Question is this — Is 20 years in prison enough?
Yes, Alice Johnson is Black. Altice went to jail on Conspiracy charges in 1997, under Clinton. Typical of that day for Blacks, heavy sentences for conspiracy crimes. Trump freed her. As he should have. The heavy sentences for drug charges have always been wrong. And yes the Left should be celebrating this, but they aren’t because in reality, they don’t care about Alice. They would have never freed Alice
In my opinion, no, 21 years is simply a good start. However I do love how the media spins this by describing her as a “grandmother with a non-violent drug conviction.” Yeah, that’s one way to put it. Another would be “grandmother who was a kingpin in an international, multi-million dollar cocaine smuggling ring”.
The woman should have rotted in prison or been deleted from the planet. I love how people classify major drug rings as just some non violent crime.
Trump screwed the pooch bigly on this one just to suck up to some trash.
I know he has a need to be liked but he needs to stay with his promises.

Thank you. This is the first I’ve seen of what she was actually charged with. Non-violent drug offense makes it sound like she had a roach floating around in the bottom of her purse.
I’m torn. On the one hand, justice is not equal. celebrities, politicians and certain criminals with connections seem to be able to skirt the system consistently, especially when it comes to sentencing. Then there are the cases where the sentence seems over the top in comparison (not necessarily in practicality).
So, to what extent is this politics? I am not sure. It seems helpful from the campaign and “vote getting” angle. I don’t know anything about the case. So I am going to abstain from having an opinion either way, I guess.
