In a stunning upset, Seth Grossman won the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district on Tuesday night, emerging from a crowded primary race to replace retiring Rep. Frank LoBiondo.

Grossman, a former Atlantic County freeholder and Atlantic City councilman, received 40 percent of the vote as of 10:30 p.m., according to The New York Times.

Hirsh Singh, a South Jersey engineer who was the perceived frontrunner of the race, had nearly 31 percent. Former Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi followed with 22 percent of the vote, while former FBI agent Robert Turkavage had 7 percent.

11:13 ET Last New Jersey update. Checking in on NJ-11, the nominees are set. Democrats have Mickie Sherrill, while Republicans have Jay Webber. Grossman won the R nod in NJ-2, but by all accounts that one is moving into Likely D territory for State Sen. Jeff Van Drew. We still don’t have an official call in NJ-5, but with 75% in McCann still leads Lonegan 52%-48%.

Looks like an upset is brewing in the GOP primary for NJ-02 Seth Grossman is leading Hirsh Singh by a 38% to 30% margin with 75% in. Singh was supposed to be a wealthy self-funder but his financial disclosures indicated he was worth substantially less than he claimed.

Hugin verses Malendez. Interesting and about a snowball chance in hell of Hugin who I believe was a phama guy from Celgene verses a former indicted Dem which is a badge of honor in that putrid state. What was the last good thing coming out of NJ? General Washington leading his forces over the Delaware.

the FReepers would like to know what is this candidate’s background, what are his views on the issues?

Is he a conservative or a liberal, is it good that he won.

I am sorry, but I think the Republicans might be a bit unknown. Since I am in Hudson County, I do not know anymore.

Grossman was the “solid conservative” choice who beat the party establishment pick in 4-way race. He was a county freeholder in the 80’s and was Christie Cream’s primary challenger in 2013.

He’s under fire for these (mild for FR) comments.

I’m much more concerned with his lack of funds. As of last month he had 11K left (half of what he raised) in the kitty and the rat had 400K more than that.

Sounds like Mr. Grossman could use lots of $$ love. Maybe President Trump will send bunches his way.
