You can be totally in the right, but get so incensed by it that you go overboard and become the problem.
When attacked, keep you cool, tell the police what happened, and then back off. You have to let them handle it the way they want.
Complain the next day in the media, on your favorite forum. Don’t confront the officers with smart talk because you don’t think they did enough.
You’re not going to win that one.
I don’t know what fully took place here, so this is just a general outline and suggestion. If this sort of thing was not the case, then there may be more of a problem here than I was first inclined to think.

As conservatives, get off your fat asses and elect a pro-2nd amendment, constitutional sheriff.
When the idiot gestapo cops attack people for exercising their civil rights, the sheriff shows up with 50 armed deputies. The sheriff tells the fat, overpaid pig cops to disappear or else.
We elected one of these constitutional sheriffs in my county. To date, he’s thrown two police chiefs out of the county for harassing citizens.
