Prosecutors question Comey for probe into McCabe
The Hill ^ | Max Greenwood - 05/31/18 | Max Greenwood - 05/31/18

Prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia recently interviewed former FBI Director James Comey as part of a criminal investigation into his former deputy, Andrew McCabe.

McCabe was accused by the Justice Department's inspector general in April of having lied to federal investigators and Comey on four occasions about improperly authorizing the disclosure of sensitive information to the media.

The inspector general, Michael Horowitz, referred the matter to the D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office to determine whether McCabe should face criminal charges.

Lying to federal investigators can carry a prison sentence of up to five years.

In a statement to The Washington Post, McCabe's attorney Michael Bromwich said that he was confident that the U.S. Attorney's Office would ultimately conclude that McCabe had done nothing wrong.

“A little more than a month ago, we confirmed that we had been advised that a criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office had been made regarding Mr. McCabe," he said.

"We said at that time that we were confident that, unless there is inappropriate pressure from high levels of the Administration, the U.S. Attorney’s Office would conclude that it should decline to prosecute. Our view has not changed.”

Bromwich also called "leaks concerning specific investigative steps" taken by the U.S. Attorney's Office "extremely disturbing."

McCabe has insisted that Comey knew that he authorized the disclosures to the media. Comey has disputed that claim, and has said that he could potentially act as a witness against McCabe if the investigation resulted in criminal charges and a trial.

This one slipped under the radar.

Has anyone else noticed Comey went silent a few weeks back?

Why aren’t they interviewing McCabe to get the dirt on Comey?

I heard this on the radio 15 mins ago.

Notice - Huber is not working with IG.

The Radio report made it clear that the US Atty in DC is questioning Comey and others in regard to the McCabe referral.

The Huber lie needs to be put to sleep.

So, they interviewed a pathological LIAR in order to get at the truth? I sure hope Comey was wired up to a polygraph w/examiner at the time.

WHAT A FARCE.

Prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia

USAO-DC? Huh? Where's Huber?

Didn't Sessions secretly unrecuse himself and appoint Huber as second special counsel?

Sundance? Sundance?

Excellent Question.

They should be charging McCabe and leveraging him against Comey.

It’s possible they’re going through the motions. It’s very possible that Mueller gave his closest friend in the world Immunity.

I seriously doubt they they do anything but an ultra-polite deferential Interview with Comey.

Comey is stupid enough to think he’s smart enough to get away with perjury.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Clapper got away with perjury; why wouldn’t Comey?

Huber’s busy brown-nosing Sessions. You didn’t think he got the job on the basis of experience, did you? Huber’s biggest case prior to the appointment involved the illegal sale of a gun.

Yes we do. The statute of limitations on Clapper’s perjury ran out in March.

Huber works for Sessions doesn’t he? I recall he hired another U.S. Attorney to work on something else, but I can’t recall his name.

Huber is out of the Utah office.

He reports ultimately to Sessions, but it looks like Rosenstein is running many things.

The IG Criminal Referral went to the DC US Atty - and the DC US Atty office is questioning McCabe and Comey.

The IG is not working with Huber, and Sessions never said he was. Sessions said he asked Huber to do a review. I think it’s clear Review - and report. I think Sessions simply wanted to offload constant requests by Republicans in the case. He forwards them to Huber. Mark Meadows has said Huber’s done (next to) nothing.
