>>Just cross our fingers we dont have a large-scale volcanic eruption. And there are plenty of places where an eruption on the scale of Pinatubo could happen, especially in the Indonesian Archipelago, one of the most seismically active areas in the world.

If Yellowstone lets go, it is an extinction event.
[If Yellowstone lets go, it is an extinction event.]
Pretty much. Especially for the U.S.A.
Not saying it will happen anytime soon. Just commenting on the size of it.
“If Yellowstone lets go, it is an extinction event.”
Especially for us...we’re about 50 miles away!
Yellowstone isnt going to blow any time soon. If it did, we are toast here in the USA in a month or so and the rest of the world in a couple months.
The one that could blow soon-in the lower 48, is the Long Valley. I have read that the magma is actually higher than the valley floor. Meaning that it is up into the hills around the caldera.
My bet is that there will be a big earthquake off the Oregon coast first. If you want a natural disaster to watch for, that is the one. Will that subduction quake wake up the Cascade Volcanoes? Nobody knows.
