Btw, if my property taxes had gone up about 900% in 20 years, there is no way I could afford to live in that environment. No way.

Worth more to whom? If you can’t sell because that nice, high assessment means a buyer can’t afford the property taxes that go with it, you’re screwed. That’s the way in works in my neck of the woods.
