You are correct. There is a significant legal distinction between a sting and entrapment. I keep seeing them used interchangeably, it’s become a pet peeve.
As you said, a sting operation catches someone doing an illegal act. It is entirely legal.
Entrapment is when law enforcement lures an otherwise innocent person into acting unlawfully. This typically involves coercion or some type of overbearing tactics. “Entrapment” can be raised as a defense in a criminal trial.
Freepers should know that sting and entrapment are very different critters.
If I were Robert Mueller, I would immediately shutdown my entire, false, investigative operation. If Mr. Mueller thinks that millions of American citizens are going to respect his inquiry...he is sadly mistaken.
Remember, Americans, all, Robert Mueller was interviewed by POTUS, Donald J. Trump To become the Director, of the FBI and he was sounded rejected. IMHO.....Bob Mueller does not belong in the same room as our great POTUS, Donald J. Trump. If Mueller had an ounce of street smarts & common sense...he would put his tail between his biased legs and call it quits. The Democrats and Rod Rosenstein will come to rue the day they ever played footsie with Robert Mueller. Democrat Mark Penn is trying to tell these insane, fools & idiots to give it up, and move on.

This was never about Russians. That was just an excused they ginned up to spy on the Trump campaign and give that information to the Hillary campaign. No wonder they were so confident that Hillary would win. They were tuned into the Trump campaign strategy, were running a massive voter fraud operation and the media was running 100% propaganda for Hillary.
Had a treasonous deep State type operation like this happened when Washington became President in 1789 or was subsequently reelected, the perpetrators would have been summarily been hanged in public.
How would the Dems react if suddenly there was silence about this ‘sting’? They should be very worried. The old days when the loyal opposition held higher standards is gone for now. The stakes are too high.
It should certainly send a chill up their spines to think that the right might adopt their ‘any means to an end’ philosophy.
.... Like it or not .... Whatever the so called intentions the FBI had .... Protective informant ... or out an out spy ..... The whole operation still turned out to be a full fledged "Sting" operation with the unredacting of all players and media complicit expose' tactics. They are all up to their necks and complicit in Abuse of Power for all of the people involved.
.... Heck .... The intention to only monitor the situation should be thrown out along with all of Obamas lame excuses. What the whole events ended up as is what needs to be what matters. It all ended up as a full fledged Sting and Witch Hunt to bring down the new administration.
"Singing" implies the person has something incriminating to say. Mueller is obviously not pressuring Manafort or anyone else to sing. He is pressuring them to lie.
On a related Sessions subject, imagine the possibilities
if Sessions resigned and made way for a new AG appointment
by Trump. First, there would be no more Rosenstein...
But it is hard to imagine that Sessions would sacrifice his
Prez for his job in a sham impeachment. At that point his
AG gig wouldn’t be worth two dead flies anyway. What am I
missing except that the Rats could filibuster away any
nominee?
Just make a recess appointment.
Heck, at this point, he can fire everyone in the DOJ and leave the damned thing empty.
It is utterly corrupt and is a menace, a clear and present danger, to innocent Americans. The DOJ is malevolent.
