US officials arrive in North Korea for talks on still-possible Trump-Kim summit
Despite what appeared to have been its cancellation last week, a delegation of US officials have arrived in North Korea to prepare for a possible summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, the Washington Post reports.
Leading the talks from the American side is Sung Kim, the current US ambassador to the Philippines, who was recalled from his post to assist in preparations for the summit, the post reports.
Kim is said to have met with North Korea’s vice foreign minister, Choe Son Hui.
The talks are expected to continue through Tuesday.

I understand though that there are ongoing meetings in ‘undisclosed areas’... that this one is to set up for the Trump Kim meeting.
Every time I see these kinds of headlines/activity, those lines from The Gambler come to mind:

After listening to Moons speech last night it seems to me Moon thinks that Kim’s ‘intentions’ to complete denuclearization of the Peninsula should be enough. He was quite evasive on details otherwise......so the question still remains if FatBoy will agree to Trumps demands for complete,.... ‘verifiable and irreversible’....denuclearization.
I suspect Kim’s team is still going to demand a ‘Measured Aid Package ‘.....with only a long time line on giving up the Nukes. They wouldn’t let Nuclear Scientists in for the destruction of the tunnels at the site so doesn’t look to me like we’re going to see much more than steps as the past and just drag this out.
Trump fixed the deadline by insisting that the summit should take place on June 12. Countdown has started.
Yes, however as said prior Kims propaganda to his people is that HE is forging this meeting with the US, that he’s the tough negotiator . This while he wants guarantees that his regime will stay in place. So how do you even guarantee such a thing when in their minds the nuclear power is what has done that guaranteeing. What possibly could top that?

This is exactly what is happening.
US side knows it though, and we have the best chance in years that the US side will not cave, in comparison with three previous administrations, due to the new tone, but it is still a possibility. Particularly career State sherpas around this time who were also there in years past and had a hand and role in previous appeasement and meaningless time wasters of meetings. So let’s see. Not out of the wioods yet by a long shot on this one.
I don’t think this was surprising to Trump or the team.....and they’re first volley (we’e not playing around) was when Trump canceled the meeting and Kim scrambled.

So Sung Kim’s been down this road in 2008.....so looks like the same people on both sides are at the table all over again.
Can’t say that gives me warm fuzzy feelings this is going to do the job......In 2008 the other side walked out after all was determined..
Convince me otherwise?
