Thank you for the ping. Honestly I’m hoping this was weather related but this day it only takes a couple of commie rats to undo a striking memorial like this. Very sad either way.

We are maybe 100 miles east and on a hill lookimg west. We were watching those storms, we can see cloud tops miles away. Just got sprinkles here but could tell someone was getting hit hard.

I am glad you and your dad are safe. God Bless you both. I am going to share this news with the husband and suggest we ride over to Brownwood’s Memorial service.

Thank you TF. Sounds like if we can make that one it might be a little more meaningful. Plus, it’s a good bike ride and we often meet other like-minded folks on 2 wheels at these events. It is good to meet people who understand Memorial Day is not another family picnic day.

I suggest that the local authorities check all the local hardware stores, Home Depot, etc for records of sledgehammers sold in the last 30 days.

The fellow handling the auction of the fragments of the stones is the local hardware merchant (in business since 1876). I’m not sure if there is a Home Depo there. I’m sure the local police have done what you said. If they cannot handle it the Texas Rangers are very very good at solving such cases.

Just wondering. If it was gale force winds, then why are only 4 of the 6 tablets that I see, were damaged. Believe me I lived for a while in Ft. Riley, KS. In an area known as tornado alley, so I known what winds can do. I do want to believe it was the wind, but in todays society, it is more likely that these tablets were vandalize.

Eh, maybe the other two didn't quite hit their breaking point. But, if it was wind, it should be pretty obvious with lots of tree branches on the ground from all those trees in the background. they look pretty clean to me though.

Good luck on trip. No, Memorial Day is not just another holiday.

My father is 92, WWII vet, at 19 he was packing an M1 pursuing Fascists across Belgium, Germany and CZ. Toward the end of the war he was 20 miles inside CZ pursuing SSers when they were ordered to halt and let the Russian forces take over and capture Prague. And they did.

He was very nostalgic last night. It’s been that way lately. He watches Fox News most of the time and he is still aware of what is going on around him. Some days his memory fails him, but usually it comes back.
