1) Fat Kim does not have many cards to play. He is being squeezed militarily and economically.
2) His nuclear disaster affected neighboring China and he had no choice but to destroy the site ( of course he wanted to make a big show of it ). The Chinese are pissed.
3) He is paranoid about a coup if he leaves his country physically. Hence, he has to arrange to have in place, people whose loyalty to him are absolute if he leaves for a few days.

From a political standpoint this is absolutely a terrific move. Use the democrats unhinged anger at Trump to portray them as roooting against anything good and rooting for everything bad.
I just remembered Rush playing a clip of FDR during WWII. FDR did exactly the same thing as Trump, blaming the Republicans for obstructing the American war effort.
