The forms that arrived at county elections offices were identical except for the voters' party preferences. On a sampling of forms reviewed by The Times, citizens who were listed as a member of a political party on the first registration document were instead listed as an unaffiliated "no party preference" voter on a second document that arrived a week later.
A DMV spokeswoman said Wednesday the system was built by the state Department of Technology and was tested prior to last month's launch.
County elections officials have been contacting the voters and correcting the errors since they received the first forms on May 5.
"We believe it's fixed," said Secretary of State Alex Padilla. "We feel we have our arms around it. We've rectified it, and we've given proper guidance to the counties."
Padilla's staff noticed the errors shortly after the April 23 launch of the California Motor Voter program, created by legislation signed into law in 2015. The program makes voter registration a part of the DMV driver's license process for every eligible citizen. While voter registration isn't required, people who are uninterested must make it clear on a touch-screen device that they want to opt out. Californians who are already registered to vote can update their address or party affiliation during a DMV appointment.
State elections officials said on Wednesday that some parts of the new system worked as expected, and that about 71,000 new voters successfully registered in the first month of the program.

Yeah, we know it's fixed, Alex.
Kalifornians believe in voting. They vote a minimum of 5 times on election day. They vote as often as they can. And of course illegals are also welcome to vote as often as they want.
The Left can harvest millions of (illegal) votes from this.
Yep, if anyone registered as Democrat, he got two voter forms and will get to vote twice. If he registered as Republican, his form was kicked into the shredder. That’s CA today.
Meanwhile, on the other coast, Cuomo just restored voting rights to 24,000 parolees....
This was not a mistake, you vote once then go back to the end of the line and vote again with the second registration!
Demand a recount regardless of the results.
Trump should announce he is doing a MAJOR INVESTIGATION of vote fraud and will be demanding minimum jail terms for offenders.
He may not even get Congress to go along, but say it anyway, and keep repeating it. I don;t think you even NEED congress to pass anything- it is already illegal to, um..., break the voting laws.
Just putting it into their heads will cut down on some of it. and actually vigorously enforcing it will take care of more.
Just very publicly jail a few people- and announce you are looking for more.
NOT INNOCENT PEOPLE, mind you, real vote fraud is easy to find. Jail some of them. The days of a small ‘fine’ and 3 months probation are over.
The days of getting a standing ovation after being convicted should be over too. You have to make them AFRAID to do it. They clearly are not.
Someone is going to get fired for reporting these 'errors' in the system.
And keep recounting until the Republican wins.
Did anyone here ever notice that these recounts always continue until the Democrat wins, and then they stop?
Bush (W) was the only time I remember that NOT happening.
Most of the illegals in California use two last names. Juan Martinez Gomez has a father named Martinez and a mother named Gomez. When Juan Martinez Gomez goes the California DMV office, the SEIU member working at DMV can fill out two voter registration forms for Juan Martinez Gomez and have the mail in ballots sent to an address controlled by the SEIU. Juan Martinez Gomez probably does not know that he is voting or somebody is voting for him. Remember that the voter registration form in California has two address field. One field is for where you live. The other address field is for where do you want your mail in ballot sent.
National Voter Registration Act of 1993
If you are sixteen years old, you can ‘pre-register’ to vote when you’re eighteen, two years later.
Perhaps we need bouncers to check id’s here in CA?
California must not be happy with it’s 144% vote registration rate just add more grease to the gears.
Well, how else can the Dhimmicraps monopolize power?
