The downside for Kim is some horrible execution (being tied to a stake as a mortar target, or some large caliber anti-aircraft gun).
Live by the sword, die by the sword.

depends on who is behind it.
generals who want to get rid of him,
or
generals who are true believers that think kim is
going soft, and giving away all they have achieved.
(not counting starvation and a society of robots)

Not if China decides to help. If he is in Singapore and the coup happens, what would U.S. do? Allow him to go home or China? That is possible, but he could be also detained, now that somebody else is in charge in Pyongyang and he has become a nobody. In that case, even China can't help. Kim has to consider this possibility, too, even if it may sound remote to outsiders. In places like N. Korea., one cannot live long unless he is paranoid.

He obviously has not watched The GodFather movies or he would understand how to deal with this situation. It's spelled out at the end of the first two movies. While you're attending to things elsewhere like baptisms or business, your enemies have unforseen spectacular accidents in which they die...

Plus, the fat little urchin would have to walk. Recall he was winded when walking with Moon at their first meeting.
He may be using this delay to get into shape.

“the coup would be aided/orchestrated by the Chinese communists.
Then it would seem to me that the timing would be better with Kim in Beijing.”
The ChiComs might want Kim killed in Singapore, so they could blame the West.
North Korea is China’s only military ally, and a rich source of much-needed minerals. Their archives no doubt implicate the ChiComs in massive crimes. A free North Korea right on their border would be a beacon to the captive Chinese population.
The ChiComs have strong incentives to go to the mat to keep North Korea under their thumb.

So have it at The Peace House as was originally suggested by President Trump.Puts them within reach of NK military plotters (if such exist) for a two-birds-with-one-stone strike. Singapore is safer.

Not if China decides to help. If the North Korean military takes over then short of invasion what could China do to help?
If he is in Singapore and the coup happens, what would U.S. do? Allow him to go home or China?
It's Singapore. How would the U.S. prevent it?

Im worried about Trump being out of the country for the same reason.

I am guessing all potential troublemaking generals for Kim will accompany him to Singapore. Kim has to know who they are.

Invasion is the possibility. Of course, it would be called “restoring an order,” along with pro-Kim element.
Kim has some outstanding charges leveled against him by UN over egregious violation of human right. For now, they are useless, but if he is ousted and stranded in China, they would kick in.

Just like the Castro "dynasty", tyrants don't last forever.
Properly set up, they can go for an awfully long time. Sparta was a pretty nasty place and we would consider it totalitarian given the technology of the time, but it was satble, and by some measures, successful.

I think this is disinformation from someone. My first thought as well.

Citing sources familiar with the preparations, The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Kim was less concerned about meeting Trump than he was about what might happen at home in Pyongyang while he's gone. And we all know that the Washington Post would never, never lie...

It also depends on how damaged Kim’s atomic testing complex is after the last blast which partially collapsed the mountain and caused an earthquake that China wasn’t happy about. If Kim’s test site is crippled, that may partially explain his sudden willingness to consider halting his nuclear program.

“Hes not that worried or hed be begging Trump to put him up in the Lincoln Bedroom tonight.”
The Lincoln Bedroom? Seriously? He doesn’t rate that.
However, I’ve heard that there’s a lovely new sinkhole at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue....

Wrong question.
Correct question: “WHY would the U.S. want to prevent it?”
