Why do these modern democrats hate the statues honoring democrat hero’s of the civil war? They do know the south was the democrats, and the north was republicans, right?

It's not quite like the Taliban destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas -- those were 2000 year old monuments.

The Stone mountain carvings are less than 50 years old

It's more akin to the tearing down of Lenin monuments.

Destruction of Davis' tomb. Remember that Lee opposed the construction of public memorials to Confederate rebellion on the grounds that they would prevent the healing of wounds inflicted during the war.

I think this requires a lot more thinking -- I'm against destroying it as it is far more complex and costly than tearing down or replacing a statue.

A better aim would be to put both the sides of the argument near the monument. The two sides were not completely evil or complete saints.
