“McCain was born to parents out of the country in service to the nation. You don’t seriously believe that children of military and diplomatic personnel are ineligible to be president.”

Given that sample, perhaps they shouldn’t be allowed to run, for anything. (but I hear you)

By statute, one must be an American citizen to receive a commission in the armed forces (foreign nationals may serve in the enlisted ranks and often do so in pursuit of naturalization). If McCain was not a citizen at birth, just when and where was he naturalized so that he could receive his USN commission?
