I think Scotty said “spanner” at least once on the old Star Trek.
We also have "spanners" in American nomenclature. They are usually large dimention (1"-2") wrenches cut out of heavy gauge sheet steel, as opposed to a forged and much thicker conventional wrench.
Like the OEM wrench for your table or skil saw, only bigger.
