Anybody who has ever worked in an organization knows that smart people don’t take crazy risks like this unless they know the boss will have their back. These people are evil, but they aren’t stupid. The mistake they made was thinking Hillary had it won.

They believed their own polls. They were filled with hubris and arrogance.

So-called smart people are capable of making monumental errors in judgement because they think they are smarter than anyone else and become convinced of their own infallibility. I've seen this phenomena in the work place on many occasions.
