Later in 1920, Jerome wrote the score for Sally. Staged by Florenz Ziegfeld, it ran for 570 performances, one of the longest runs of any Broadway show in the decade.
Ones first impulse is to sing, Look for the union label, which uses the same structure but alters the tune into a march. I dont know if Kern would have approved.
This is from the Publius Museum of Music, and this 1921 recording made it to the top of the charts. You can clearly hear the tuba substituting for a string bass. The lyrics are borne of the carnage of World War I.
