Harley-Davidson, the iconic American motorcycle company, is set to lay off hundreds of American workers at its Kansas City, Missouri factory while creating jobs in Thailand. After laying off nearly 200 American manufacturing workers last year, as Breitbart News reported, Harley-Davidson is expected to fully close its Kansas City manufacturing facility, leaving 800 workers out of work.
Harley-Davidson executives say about 400 jobs will be sent to the corporations York, Pennsylvania manufacturing plant, but union workers allege their jobs are being sent overseas to Thailand.
In remarks to USA Today, a manufacturing worker whos been at Harley-Davidson for more than 20 years will lose his job at the Kansas City Harley-Davidson facility. He says his job is going to Bangkok, Thailand, where the corporation is expanding jobs.

Make America quiet again
Who’s lying?
Last time I checked, Pennsylvania was in the US. :-)
Thailand?
Thai Ping
Well, a union thug would never. ..
Hmm.
Thailand?
Pat Buchanan and Reagan went to bat for them in the 80’s.
This has been coming for quite some time now. The Dyna line was ended and the V-Rod was axed, leaving only the Sportster which is being re-tooled. That is all they make in the KC facility so those jobs were going away.
Harley the Rice Burner! HA! Double HA!
LOL! There ya go. :-)
Breitbart was very lazy here.
There be the problem. IMHO
Note the use of the word "more". And PA is still in the US! Yay!
With a little internet digging, Harley is now getting a piece of the asian motorcycle market. They even have a dealership in Thailand.
I wouldn’t think their market share is heavy enough for an asian factory though they might have a warehouse at a port somewhere.
HD is not about to start building bikes in Thailand just to ship them back here. There’s no economy in that. The OP is conflating two separate items, adding 2+2 and coming up with 5. The Thai plant is intended to supply the SE Asia market, which is taking off (they already have a plant in India, where their bikes are becoming more and more popular).
As noted upthread, the two model lines built by the plant being shuttered are both going away, and there’s no corresponding upswing in some other model that might take over that production capacity.
There are union workers in PA, too. So either the local union did a deal and/or PA’s taxpayers, whether they knew it or not, gave the company a bribe...er, incentive.
"Harley-Davidson executives say about 400 jobs will be sent to the corporations York, Pennsylvania manufacturing plant . . ."
So Harley executives made a mistake in their press release and are really sending 800 jobs to Pennsylvania?
I’m not sure of anything other than what the local media is reporting. This Breitbart story sucks.
I admit it is hard to buy anything made by union workers; but jobs going to Thailand?
