I’m thinking the same thing. Pointless. If they spotted him, what’s the worst that could happen? They’d fire a missile, blow him out of the sky and spoil all his plans for suicide? Makes no sense.
Stealth was not needed.

He wanted to commit suicide in some faraway, inaccessible place. It's possible, if he had been alive to witness the news reports and ongoing investigation following the crash, he would have been dismayed to learn that it was recorded as a big mystery, rather than the dramatic statement he intended.

whats the point of avoiding radar to commit suicide? Based on the article, he probably avoided radar so he could fly over his hometown. If was seen off of his flight plan, he would have been intercepted sooner and wouldn't get one last glimpse of home.
