Behold Pope Rihanna, clad in a pontifically inspired pearl-and-jewel bedizened gown topped by a matching mitre. As for the real pope? Indirectly, he abetted this calculated mockery.
Rihannas papal-showgirl look, on display at the annual costume ball the Met Gala, constituted the most conspicuous lampooning of Catholic symbols and regalia on an evening that was expressly dedicated to spoofing the Churchs iconography. Ill let Page Six describe some of the notable pieces on display in the Mets new Catholic-themed exhibit: leather bondage mask draped in rosary beads, a jeweled bustier with its gems strategically placed and a fuschia gown inspired by cardinals robes with a neckline that left its mannequins breasts mostly exposed.

In my mind “Red Carpet Catholicism” refers to the Church’s tendency to suck-up to VIP’s, even if they repeatedly flip the bird to the Church and its teachings.
Wish I had a penny for every Catholic Democrat politician who was feted and celebrated at a Church event (despite having never met an abortion they wouldn’t vote for).
Eagerly serving Communion to the Nancy Pelosis of the world while shredding itself to bits over whether or not to let some divorced schlub take it is another example.
