Judge hands defeat to Mueller team in Russian troll farm case
Washington Examiner ^ | 5/5/18 | D Chaitin

Posted on 05/05/2018 7:09:14 PM PDT by SoFloFreeper

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team was handed a small defeat Saturday when a judge rejected their request to postpone the first court hearing regarding charges against several Russian companies and Russian citizens that they charge with attempting to use social media to meddle in the 2016 election.

An arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday for Concord Management and Consulting, one of the three Russian companies Mueller accused of contributing to a Russian troll farm operation to spread discord online during the presidential contest.

Mueller's team asked for a delay on Friday because it was unclear whether the firm had formally accepted the court summons for the case, but U.S. District Court Judge Dabney Friedrich, an appointee of President Trump, denied that request in a brief order Saturday. No explanation was given for the decision, according to Politico.

I am no way a legal eagle.

So I speak as a novice....not even a novice but just a guy who tries to look at stuff with an objective eye.

This sounds like the 13 indictments were for show. Nothing substantial to prove, but easy to indict since the "bad guys" are thousands of miles away and will never subject themselves to an American court of law.

The judge may realize that is indeed a witch hunt and isn't going to let Mueller pussyfoot around any more.

Thoughts?

Could the judiciary be one place that is coming to reflect the opinion of many Americans who are sick of this never ending BS?

as another aside, does it seem to some of you the “apparent” conservative point of view the Washington Examiner is supposed to have kind of dying?

They seem kind of anti-Trump.

Same with the Free Beacon.

“This sounds like the 13 indictments were for show.”

Bingo.

It will be entertaining to watch Mueller try to prove that a handful of twitter trolls changed the outcome of the election.

The guy that wrote the story is not bright.

It is a huge defeat for Mueller.

What the judge is saying essentially is “PUT UP or SHUT UP!”

If, as I suspect, Muller’s case is smoke and mirrors, the judge will dismiss it.

And Mueller will be exposed for what he is.

Friedrich, a Trump appointee based in Washington, sided with Concord and said the arraignment will proceed as scheduled Wednesday afternoon.

I posted this on the other thread, I love it!

When you charge a bunch of foreign people with a crime like this, it's easy to assume they'll never show up to stand trial.

But when you list a corporation among the defendants, it can simply send lawyers to defend the case.

This whole episode appears to be a colossal embarrassment to Mueller and his team ... to the point where I can't imagine any of them even graduated from law school. You file a motion to delay an arraignment on the grounds that the defendant may not have been properly served with the complaint, and the defendant's lawyers prove they were served properly by showing up in court with a detailed list of discovery demands?

LMAO.

“an appointee of President Trump,...” And THIS is exactly why we need McConnell to get off his dead ass and schedule back-to-back floor actions & votes on Trump’s judicial nominees. And with only the maximum 2-hour “debate” under the change that came out of the Rules Committee!

This was a HUGE DEFEAT for Mueller. His strategy is to ‘hang his enemies in the wind’, so as to keep the ‘Russian Collusion’ crap alive. But now he’s having to deal with some VERY UNFRIENDLY judges, who put the RULE OF LAW above him.

In this case, his first goal was that the Russians would not appear in court, thus giving him ammo to say they had indeed helped to rig the election for Trump.

But that didn’t work yesterday as their lawyers appeared in court, and ready to fight. And they want DISCOVERY and a lot of other stuff that is REQUIRED to be provided to the defense.

So on to Plan B for Mueller - DELAY, DELAY, and DELAY more, ideally through the Mid-terms, to keep the Russian stench on Trump. But that FAILED today...the judge won’t allow Mueller to drag it out.

So Mueller is likely only left with Plan C, which is to DROP THE CHARGES. Expect that next week, unless he tries some kind of appeal.

If Putin really wants to undermine the U.S., he’ll have the lawyers for this defendant actually OPPOSE any attempt to drop the charges. Think about that one for a second, and you’ll understand how comical this whole disaster has become.

“...and the defendant’s lawyers prove they were served properly by showing up in court with a detailed list of discovery demands?”

Even funnier is that those demands had been transmitted to Mueller over the past few weeks, and then ignored by Mueller...and then Mueller’s gang shows up in court claiming that Concord never received the summons.

Laughing my Effingham arse off!!!

And so another judge learns that Mueller has no ethics.

I don’t think judges react well to lawyers who lie to them.

“If Putin really wants to undermine the U.S., he’ll have the lawyers for this defendant actually OPPOSE any attempt to drop the charges.”

LOL!!! Is that even possible? If so, they can legitimately claim that the Russian Troll Farm wants to get their ‘credibility’ back, by fighting the case and providing they’re innocent.

I can see Mueller’s gang in court, should that happen.

JUDGE: And now U.S. Prosecutors are to present their case. Please, Mr. Ryan (or whoever they get to do it).

P. RYAN: Uh, the Prosecution rests.

Different topic, but another case that the Left has to be in terror about is the DACA case, being heard by Judge Hagan, who DOES NOT LIKE this crap as he killed its cousin, DAPA. If Hagen kills DACA, the Dems will be left trying to explain to the Hispanics as to why they walked away from Trump’s very reasonable offers...not good for turnout in November, not good at all.

The SP was hoping for a “default judgment” - now they are forced to produce, or lose.
