How Oman’s Rocks Could Help Save the Planet(climate change)

IBRA, Oman — In the arid vastness of this corner of the Arabian Peninsula, out where goats and the occasional camel roam, rocks form the backdrop practically every way you look.

But the stark outcrops and craggy ridges are more than just scenery. Some of these rocks are hard at work, naturally reacting with carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and turning it into stone.

Veins of white carbonate minerals run through slabs of dark rock like fat marbling a steak. Carbonate surrounds pebbles and cobbles, turning ordinary gravel into natural mosaics.

Scientists say that if this natural process, called carbon mineralization, could be harnessed, accelerated and applied inexpensively on a huge scale — admittedly some very big “ifs” — it could help fight climate change. Rocks could remove some of the billions of tons of heat-trapping carbon dioxide that humans have pumped into the air since the beginning of the Industrial Age

Hmmmm. So, the arabs are gonna save us from a non-existent problem. And how much is that gonna cost? Maybe some of our illustrious scientists could demand all 'See Uh O 2' report to the Oman for sequestration. Or at least figure out how to make it go there.

I wonder if that big ol’ Mozzie rock in the center of Mecca could be used for this purpose?

Rocks could remove some of the billions of tons of heat-trapping carbon dioxide that humans have pumped into the air since the beginning of the Industrial Age and plunge the World in to another Ice Age and Kill everything on the planet.

We all long for the days before the Industrial Age, back when there was no CO2 in the atmosphere ...

The ice ages start when the inter-glacial civilizations are successful in their fight on global warming.

They call it climate “change” but every “cure” involves trying to cool the planet. Climate is supposed to change but they want it static or cooling, never warming. They want less CO2, which means less plant life and crop production.

On top of all that we are entering a solar minimum which means cooler weather naturally. These people are nuts. Like everything else they want, they want to control the climate, not let it behave naturally. Their hubris knows no bounds.

Just pose this list:

Define the “correct” temperature range for the planet.

2. Define the “correct” humidity range for the planet.

3. Define the “correct” mean sea level for the planet.

4. Define the “correct” amount of precipitation for the planet.

5. Define the “correct” makeup of the atmosphere.

6. Define the “correct” amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.

7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.

Does this occur in Oman because there are no trees or grass there to absorb the CO2?

There seems to be several problems here. Carbon mineralization is a general term for the process that turns organic carbon into inorganic minerals. What they are talking about is better known as mineral carbonization, which is when carbon compounds, such as CO2, CO, methane, and -CO4 react with minerals to bind the carbon.

Some minerals do react with CO2, but to dig them up, crush them and spread them out would cost too much in CO2 formation, unless green electricity was used to power the whole process. Also, the environmental impact of spreading out billions of tons of these reactive minerals is unknown. CO2 injection wells have been tested, but they are very limited and take several years to absorb most of the CO2.

In other words, unless something like the subsidies and environmental waivers given to solar and wind electrical generators are handed out, this is a losing proposition.

“It’s clear that we’re going to have to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere,” said Roger Aines, who leads the development of carbon management technologies at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California…

There you have it. Roger says it is clear we have to spend trillions of dollars to remove CO2. Why can't you just accept what Roger has proclaimed? What's the matter with you? You denier, you!

Well they did say it may not be easy. But, "Send lots and lots of cash and we'll look into it for several years. It may even take decades but we'll check it out. You can trust us. We have the algore seal of approval." 🌞 "Plus we have plenty of sunshine to help power the project." 💰💰💰
