CARACAS - Presidential candidate Henri Falcon pledged on Tuesday to raise Venezuelas minimum wage to $75 per month in a newly-dollarized economy should he beat the ruling socialists in a May 20 vote.
alcon slammed President Nicolas Maduros announcement on the eve of May Day that he was raising the minimum monthly salary to 1 million bolivars - the third increase this year, but still less than $2 at the black market rate.
That doesnt even pay for a kilo of meat! Falcon scoffed, saying prices in Venezuela were effectively pegged to the dollar, while wages were not, as a result of incompetent economic policies by Maduros government.
This is the worst crisis any Latin American country has suffered in the last 100 years, added Falcon, who calls Maduro the candidate of hunger.
Maduro says his rivals dollarization proposal is part of a wider plan to let the United States run Venezuela, and mocks him as Fal-Trump.
Dont leave me alone in this battle against the economic mafias, Maduro exhorted the crowd, blaming pro-opposition business leaders for an economic war against his government.

Two communist ex-presidents.
Worker’s paradise! /s
Why not $75/hour?
Poverty for all.
Ecuador did this. Their currency had collapsed, so they simply shut the banks without warning, and from one day to the next switched to the US dollar.
For about a month people had to survive on what food they had in the pantry and what money they had in the sock drawer, but there weren’t any riots. People survived and by switching to the dollar, the banks and the government lost the ability to manipulate the currency.
They later overthrew that president, but they kept the dollar.
Worse thing in 100 years? Id offer Cuba as a counter example.
What about some glass beads?!! Cheap bastages.
I'd like to see them hung up by street lights.
