Alcohol in Scotland just became more expensive as the country today introduced a minimum price per unit of alcohol.

It is the first country in the world to implement such a law, with the Scottish government believing its introduction will save lives. The new legislation sets a 50 pence (approximately 70 cents) minimum price per unit of alcohol. Anyone licensed to serve alcohol in the country -- in shops as well as bars and restaurants -- will need to follow the new pricing laws.

According to the Scottish gov’t drinking one glass of wine a day for 7 days is considered “excessive”.

I consider it healthy. I’m not a fan of wine, but quite literally drink it for medicinal purposes. Maybe that’s why my wife and I are 64, have no health insurance, and don’t need it.

Once again, CNN publishes something not true as a news item. France used to enforce minimum pricing on various alcoholic beverages to protect the wine industry. I suspect that they still do.

CNN can't get things straight, even where their depraved ideology is not in danger.

They’re taxing whisky in Scotland. It’s been tried before. I wonder if anyone has really thought this scheme through?

If the unit is a pint, I have no problem with that.

If the unit is a milliliter ... big problem!

Typical lie that the price is meant to “save lives.” It’s a tax, and, like all taxes, it’s meant to further enrich the state, with little regard for the people it’s supposed to represent. One would think the genius who proposed the tax has spent time in Sacramento, CA.
