Shares in Charter Communications (CHTR) plunged after the cable TV firm reported first quarter earnings and lost more video subscribers than expected, also sparking a sell-off in Comcast (CMCSA) and Altice USA (ATUS).
Charter plummeted 11.7% to 263.33 on the stock market today. Comcast fell 4.6% to 31.81. Altice dropped 9.3% to 17.59.

Having owned a small cable TV company I can say that the markup on tv service is about 300%. The markup on internet service is about 1000%. The markup on digital voice services is about 400%. Which services are more profitable to deliver?
Reminds me of the days when I had a C-Band dish, before everything went digital. My yearly programming back then cost about what my monthly programming costs now with DirecTV.
Yup. They are caught in a death spiral. Locked into long-term rights fees for programming deals with a declining subscriber base. So they are forced to raise rates on the remaining subscribers, causing more of them to cut and run as well.
If there wasn’t 5 others in this house cable tv would have been gone years ago.
that is their hook....hard to convince the whole household to quit the racket.
That explains my gut level distain of Cox cable internet service. In Ukraine cell service with 3GB data is $1.38 per month.
