Pompeo Gives 'Thumbs Up' for Israel to Counter Russian-Backed Iranian Drive in Syria

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sat down on Sunday, April 29 in Tel Aviv to discuss the Iranian threat, a Russian-backed Syrian force struck across the Euphrates to capture a string of US-backed fortified Kurdish SDF villages. This incursion of a key US area of influence region in eastern Syria, if confirmed, would rip up a key element of the US-Russian de-confliction zones accord and provide Iran with a springboard for a leap up to the Iraqi border.

Pompeo, on his first Middle East Trip as Secretary of State, reiterated in Tel Aviv – as he did in Riyadh earlier Sunday – that the nuclear deal will need to be fixed or it would be abandoned by President Donald Trump’s on May 12. Standing alongside Netanyahu, the secretary backed Israeli efforts to counter Iran in Syria. He said the US is committed to “rolling back to the full range of Iranian malign influence in Syria,” specifically mentioning “Iran’s missile systems, its support for Hezbollah, its importation of thousands of Shiite fighters into Syria.” Pompeo added, “We strongly support Israel’s sovereign right to defend itself.”

This was taken as a US green light for Israel to take on the elements threatening its security from Syria. The secretary also stressed that the US would continue to fight ISIS and not tolerate the Assad regime using chemical weapons.

Our military sources add: If the Syrian push into the US-held region is confirmed, it will tell the Trump administration and its new secretary of state that while they were busy arranging for US troops to leave Syria, Moscow was expanding its support for Iran to move in and deepen presence in that country.

Russia, Iran and Syria were not deterred when their attempt last year to cross the Euphrates was repulsed by the US contingent with heavy casualties inflicted on Russian forces. The same coalition tried again on February 10 and were again thrown back by the US air force. But our military sources report that, in mid April shortly before the US-UK-French missile strike on Syria’s chemical weapons sites, Russian forces were seen transferring to the Syrian army upgraded bridging equipment for their new attempt on Sunday. A few hours after the Syrian army’s claims of success, however, Kurdish troops said they had mounted a counter-offensive and forced the Syrian forces “far away” from the territories they captured.

Pompeo winds up his three-day Middle East tour in Amman before returning home to Washington.

Someone please explain the odd benevolence by our political elites to Saudi Arabian Sunnies. They encouraged and funded the 9-11 OBL Pearl Harbor event that killed thousands of Americans. Saddam and Iraqis that killed most American GIs with explosive devices were Sunnis too. ISIS were ethnic Sunnis. Iran was an enemy of Iraq.

My only priority is the USA. I dont care about other countries in the ME cesspool. The Saudis have been our enemy ever since they created the oil shortage and hyper inflation in the 70s. I disagree that Iran is our main problem.

Saudi King promised to help us take down the mullahs in Iran, keeping them in check.

We promised to not flood the oil market and let OPEC decrease production...maybe potus will play along if things go well, or not!

Saudis merely want to control, buy us.
Iran still wants to destroy, nuke us.
But yes, the Saudis have been effectively our serious enemies for a very very long time, many years.
And it is mostly Saudis that finance and export terrorist recruiting and training cells into USA.
....
at any event, the answer to your question is....
the kiss-ass approach, attitude of some USA political hacks (and much of our Snake Dept, which is as yet still not Drained of its Nazi swamp alligators)........this Sell Out America attitude.... appears to be largely due to the immense amounts of $$$$$$$$$$ that our enemies in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Moslem world.... are pumping into WashingtonDC... (as their prince said a few years ago, they don’t have to bribe sitting American presidents or congresscritters, they only have to PROMISE to give them tons of $$$$$$ once they leave office.....and they’re UNDER enemy/Moslem/Saudi control EVEN NOW. Thinking its like waving a nice big juicy carrot in front of a bunch of very hungry and corrupt Bunnie wabbits

Then you must have been born after the 70s.

I don’t trust either Saudis or Iranians. The Iranian people do prefer USA people over Saudis whose only interest in USA is access to our swamp. I do trust the Iranians more that Saudis and trust the Christian ethnic Russians much more than Saudis and their sharia wahabism.

Some forget the USA and UK overturned Iranian govt and installed the corrupt Shah of Iran in the 1950’s and took out their elected government for big BP? oil access to their oil. If we would mind our own business America would be in better shape, instead of appeasing neocon war mongering globalist propaganda.

Mideast is nothing but trouble for the USA. We can always have diplomacy and trade with Mideast countries but we stick our nose under the tent for everything.
