The annual White House Association Correspondents’ Dinner was held in Washington, DC last night. President Trump opted to skip the event for the second year in a row. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and several other White House officials represented him in his place. While humor was expected from the speakers at the dinner, some viewers felt that comedian Michelle Wolf’s jokes targeting Huckabee Sanders went too far. Conservatives and liberals alike lambasted Wolf for her attempts at be being funny. Perhaps The strongest condemnation of all came from MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski.
Brzezinski, who is no fan of the administration, thought Wolf’s jokes making fun Huckabee Sanders appearance were mean spirited and “deplorable.” She called on the White House Correspondents' Association to issue an apology.
Watching a wife and mother be humiliated on national television for her looks is deplorable. I have experienced insults about my appearance from the president. All women have a duty to unite when these attacks happen and the WHCA owes Sarah an apology.— Mika Brzezinski (@morningmika) April 29, 2018
The WHCD should be about honoring the best in journalism. Enough with the comedians, enough with the late-night parties. These are serious times for both the free press and the public they serve.— Mika Brzezinski (@morningmika) April 29, 2018
Women who use their government positions to spread lies and misinformation deserve to face the same withering criticism as men. But leave our looks out of it. Watching from home, I hurt for Sarah, her husband and her children.— Mika Brzezinski (@morningmika) April 29, 2018
Brzezinski is referencing President Trump's last July that said she had shown up badly to his Mar-a-Lago estate one New Years Eve and was bleeding badly from the face.
...to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 29, 2017
American Conservative union president Matt Schlapp and his wife walked out of the event over these jokes.
My wife @mercedesschlapp and I walked out early from the wh correspondents dinner. Enough of elites mocking all of us— Matt Schlapp (@mschlapp) April 29, 2018
Of course critics could argue that for years on end conservatives have been saying that society is too concerned with political correctness. Therefore, they might say, people should not take offense to the comments. However, many would respond that there is a difference between being funny and being rude.
Wolf's jokes can be watched below.
I am not interested in it and I will not post the link. I hope you all understand
How tall is that ‘thing’? ... I didn’t know they could stack bitter filth that high!
The White House should boycott this thing next year.
Send no one.
Any reference to “comedian” or “jokes” in this context should always be enclosed in quotation marks.
I was watching the rally on Fox News, and out of curiosity I was checking the TV guide on line what channel would broadcast the dinner. When I read that it was CNN, that was enough for me. Naturally I did not change the channel. Why should I? I don't watch the Clinton News channel, and haven't for years.
Sarah is in no way "humiliated" by these ignorant and tasteless attacks: instead, the grace with which she endures them reflects on her understanding of the teachings of her father and mother and of her faith in a Higher Power to whom all are accountable.
Don Rickles made a career out of “insulting’ people.
He did it with finesse and light heartedness and class.
Today’s comedy is the high school equivalent of adolescent viciousness.
Do you think the first “question” at the White House press briefing will be an apology from the president of the White House Correspondents?
Naahhh!

I’m sure they won’t send anyone.
I doubt if it has many attendees at all.
Maybe when it happens the them (Trump to Mika) - they (liberals and Mika) finally understand what they've been doing to us for years.
Trump dishes it out - and for the first time in history 'liberals' feel empathy when conservative women are trashed, called names and belittled? Mika - it was nice of you to come to Sarah's defense... but the bashing of conservative women AND their looks and children and everything else has been going on for years. Ask Sarah Palin - OR any conservative women ...
OK, I did listen to a bit of it. And here I thought nothing on this earth could be more grating than Hillarys cackle. This chicks voice could give you a migraine in under 10 minutes.
Comedians are funny.
This skank is not funny or a comedian.
She is a bitter, vile political hack.
She will not be in the “comedy” business much longer if at all.
She screwed up just as the other skank with the red hair did.
You can always tell how far under the skin of these vile leftists Trump and company have gotten by the level of their vitriol.
I’m not sure it’s possible to get any further under than they have. Keep it up Ms Sanders and the rest of the Trump Admin!
There could hardly be a bigger contrast between this display of wickedness, and Trump’s rally of American dream and ideas.
Shame on all those who sat and listened to that vile woman. The women especially should have walked out.
Michelles biggest problem last night was her lack of humor. The jokes were poorly delivered and not funny. Filth, crassness, mean-spiritedness, rudeness and even hatred are now acceptable by the Left. However, what will not tolerated is boredom. Now, even the Left will denounce her.
Jake Tapper once again reminded us what a doofus he is by claiming this is what the White House Correspondents Dinner should be about. Jeeze. My head exploded.
The White House should boycott the WHCD forever.
