Texas Voter ID Law Upheld

The Associated Press reports that a Texas voter ID law has been upheld by a US Court of Appeals.

From the AP:

“Texas' voter ID law that was twice blocked over findings of discrimination can stay in effect for the 2018 elections, a U.S. appeals court ruled Friday.

It was the second major ruling over voting rights in the U.S. this week after an Arkansas judge on Thursday blocked that state's voter ID measure as unconstitutional.

But in a 2-1 decision by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, the Texas law that critics have slammed as one of the toughest voter ID measures in the nation was seen as a suitable replacement for the original 2011 law that a federal judge had likened to a "poll tax" on minority voters.

The biggest change to the Texas law — which accepts handgun licenses as sufficient identification to vote, but not college student IDs — is that voters without any acceptable photo ID can still cast a ballot so long as they sign an affidavit. Opponents and a federal judge in Texas balked at the revisions, saying criminal penalties tied to lying on the affidavit could have a chilling effect on voters.”

Democrats have long argued that state voter ID laws are racist because in their view minorities are less likely to be able to obtain identification. Republicans argue that since identification is required for nearly everything these days, it would make sense that arguably one of the most important civic duties would also require ID.

According to CNN, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision.

From CNN

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton praised the decision, saying the revised law "removes any burden on voters who cannot obtain a photo ID."

"The court rightly recognized that when the Legislature passed Senate Bill 5 last session, it complied with every change the 5th Circuit ordered to the original voter ID law," Paxton said in a statement. "Safeguarding the integrity of our elections is essential to preserving our democracy."

This is racist because democrats have made it clear that women and minorities are too stupid to get IDs. It also makes it harder for illegal aliens to vote which is racist (even though mexican is as much of a race as irish or german is)

And still, one of three black robed tyrants would gladly impose massive vote fraud on the people of Texas, because it he assumes that more illegal voters would help his team impose their progressive agenda.

I agree with the judge. Why should lying under oath be a crime? /sarc

“a chilling effect on voters.”

“Voters”, not “citizens”.

It’s only racist if a particular race are the lawbreakers.

Ok, we can play their game. Speed limits on the Texas highways are racist as they are used by many illegal aliens!

Let's talk logic here. Those fair-minded folk who care about everyone (sarcasm) say photo ID is unfair. It discriniates against poor folk who have nothing.

That makes no sense. What would make sense is if when they registered to vote, they were given a voters ID. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to produce such ID; that's what the EMV does. It should be in the same data bank as Driver's ID is. Such an ID wouldn't be "discriminatory"; it would be empowering. Having Photo ID with their address would make it easier to get benefits, jobs, establish a history for credit.

The fact that the maniacs don't want this can only be supported by two hypothesis I can think of: (1) they want to keep these people on the plantation or (2) they don't care if some voting mischief happens.

So impeach the bastard...or get rid of him another way. Isn’t that what Texans are famous for?

Good news! We need more voter ID laws like this to stop voter fraud which we all know is epidemic.

Pardon my addition to the sentence below from the article:

Opposition to fair and easily satisfied Voter ID legislation are simply against regulations that impede election fraud.

Why are Democrats wanting to engage in election fraud?

"minorities are less likely to be able to obtain identification".

How is that? Is it because the state charges for IDs? I would have to agree if they require ID to vote then they need to provide a free ID card option to residents.

In general I support voter ID but I thought there was an option for people to fill out provisional ballots. The provisional ballots would be counted separately and, unless the race was close enough that the provisional ballots could change the outcome, would not be added to the total. If the race was close then the provisionals would be counted, and only if the provisionals changed the outcome then they would do a background check.

How many federal judges impeached?

#5. “Lying under oath” to the Democrats is just a normal state of affairs. Similar to the Islamic practice of ‘”taqqiya” (lying to infidels and anyone else who is not a Moslem), or the communist tactic of lying to everyone in furtherance of their ideology.

Seems that one judge is an advocate of any one or all three of the conditions I mentioned above. Hmmmmm!

#14. re “Why are Democrats wanting to engage in election fraud”? Simply = BECAUSE THEY ARE DEMOCRATS, the offspring of Marxism and Progressivism (i.e. the bastard child of Marxism”.

Democrats are singing a new version of an old Doobie Brothers song, “Jesus Is Alright With Me”, now “Lying is Alright With me”.
