I played golf with two 12-year-olds once. The golfers behind us were livid, but they never just asked ‘Could we play through?” That would have helped. However, I knew we were in the wrong. Did these women pay any attention to others??

Golf etiquette would dictate you allow faster players to "play through".

The proper golf etiquette if you are playing slow is to offer the group behind you the chance to play though.
If they refuse, then that's their problem.
But if you are playing slow and don't allow groups behind you play through, then it is your problem.
Golf has rules that are self-administered. Calling 911 on some slow players? Over the top if you ask me.

When I know I'm slowing someone down, I wave them through w/o being asked...if someone is being held up and resents it, they should ask to play through before complaining to course officials.
Golf is a game that is heavy on the courtesies.
